The DL is weight is really misleading.

Swalley will start because he played well last week and he is 286 but the interior DL that will play a lot are:

Roberson- 341
Ransom- 304
Mondie- 321
Liner- 325

The DL is going to be stout but we have mostly smaller, fast LBs behind them.

The twitter stat comparison is fun to look at, but obviously not even close to apples to apples.

I think this is what really shows how this program has changed since the last time we played ASU:
Code:
- TALE OF THE TAPE -
POSITION ................................. UCA ................ ASU
Offensive line (starters avg.)........... 6-3, 309...........6-4, 302
Defensive line............................6-2, 277...........6-2, 280
Offensive backs ......................... 5-11, 186 ......... 5-11, 192
Receivers..................................6-2, 199...........6-0, 203
Linebackers .............................. 6-2, 229........... 6-1, 212
Defensive backs............................6-1, 194...........6-0, 193
Punt/Kickoff returners....................5-10, 174.........5-11, 193
Kicker/Punter.............................6-0, 182...........5-10, 185

(I don't have the game notes from 2011 to compare it to, but I feel very confident we were 20+ pounds lighter across the lines.)

Their thing is speed and they are very, very fast, and very athletic. The inside of their DL is big, and good, by any standard, but other than that they are fairly small everywhere.

Even though they are 0-3, and probably as undisciplined, and as unsound fundamentally as any team you will see this year, their talent level will impress you.

Coaching, and execution, not so much.

Maybe the in-state FCS team has the psychological edge over a FBS team but the FBS team has 20+ more scholarship players and that can be the difference. Sagarin ratings would predict a RW win by 12. Game is big for both teams.........Bears need a win to offset the Samford loss for when it comes to playoff chances....hard to rely on winning the SLC when Nicholls almost beats UGA between the hedges and SFA beats Cowboys in LC.

Just watched Episode 2 of Beyond The Stripes. Check out Desmond Smith's
answer to the question about a moral victory. Gotta love that kid.

DE Griffin Riggs, who was probably their most physical DE, has been suspended at least for this game for some off the field issues, but other than some bumps and bruises A-State appear's to be good to go.

By all accounts they have had a very good week of practice.

They have reportedly sold more tickets than for the Toledo game, and the weather looks good, so it should be a very good college football experience for those that attend.

Enjoy the game , and feel free to chime in on the Other Arkansas College and Universities form on Hogville.net about this game or any other UCA related subject.

Everything is good. Becoming Red Wolves was one of the best decisions ever made. It rattles some when you open with your toughest three games of the year but I expect all the new players are starting to get in sync.

The way they approach fall camp to minimize injuries, hurt's them the first game or two anyway.

They were prepared for Utah State, and from everyone I've talked too their effort was off the chart( apparently has been in all three of their games, just lacking execution).

They apparently got penalized for that effort by the MWC refs big-time last Friday. Maybe they are just not use to seeing that level of intensity for a whole game.

I hope the Sun Belt Refs will be fair to both teams...let the kids play and only
call penalties that have a bearing on the play.

No you don't, you want them to be just like the MWC refs, and throw the flag as soon as their "thugs" ( make sure your coaches inform the refs they are thugs) walk out of the dressing room. You don't want them going"chippy" on you.

Having the other team flagged 12 time to your teams 1 by the end of the first half is a good thing for your team, and your want that.....especially at their place.

Also, have your DL make a quick shift while mimicking their snap call while you are at it. If they can't adjust, and the refs don't mind to bad and to sad for them.

Anything your players can say to their players to get them to retaliate after the whistle, have them say it ( I prefer to leaving mothers out of it).

Hate going "old school", but you gotta put a little "cheat" on as they say, and it's called good coaching, and you will need it, as did Utah St or they would have gotten beat.

I would also advise your coaches not to tell anyone how they are going to put a little "cheat" on.

A-State's HC told everyone his 1st year that they intended to engage in some kind skulduggery in special teams play every game, and I don't think it worked out as planned.

Also told everyone this year that he intended for his team to push the limit when it comes to aggressive play, and to be honest that does not seem to be working out either. It appears referees ( especially those in the MWC)really don't like that approach........at all.

Life lessen, maybe somethings are better kept "in house".

Enjoy the game, should be a good one.

Q1 3:21 to go....RWs lead 16-7............Bears stopping the run but getting beat on passes..............Bears offense has got to stay in the track meet..............

Still in Q1 and A-State leads 9-7...............UCA 46 yd punt return TD by Tre Smith after a Hildenbrand quick kick to RWs 3...State covers onside kick and scores 39 seconds later then misses PAT...........
