Pretty good when over 20% of the southland selections are from the Bears.

YOUNG BEARS NAMED TO ALL-AMERICA TEAMS

https://ucasports.com/news/2019/12/17/football-young-bears-named-to-all-america-teams.aspx

CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears had four underclassmen named FCS All-Americans by Hero Sports on Tuesday.

Quarterback Breylin Smith was a first-team sophomore All-American and offensive lineman Jaylin Hendrix was an honorable mention. Named to the All-America freshman team were wide receiver Tyler Hudson and offensive lineman Parker Ray, both first-team selections on the freshman team.

Smith, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound sophomore from Conway, set the UCA single-season passing record with 3,704 passing yards and 32 touchdowns. The touchdown total ties the school record set by Nathan Dick back in 2011. Smith is now ninth in career passing with 4,791 yards over less than two full seasons as a starter.

Hendrix, a 6-4, 330-pounder from Everman, Texas, started all 13 games on the offensive line and helped the Bears average 381.6 yards per game and 27.6 points in winning a share of the Southland Conference championship with a 7-2 league mark.

Hudson, a 6-2, 185-pound receiver from Spring, Texas, led the Bears with 55 receptions for 975 yards and 12 touchdowns. His touchdown total is the second best in school history while his yardage is fifth at UCA.

Ray, a 6-4, 310-pound lineman from Columbia, Mo., started all 13 games as a true freshman and helped the Bears to their third nine-plus victory season in the past four years.

UCA earned its third FCS playoff berth in the past four seasons and finished the season with a 9-4 record and ranked in the FCS Top 10.

CONWAY, Ark. _ University of Central Arkansas' Robert Rochell brought home two FCS All-America honors this week.

Rochell, a 6-foot-2, 176-pound junior cornerback from Shreveport, La. (Fair Park High School) was named a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and was a third-team selection by STATS FCS.

Rochell, a two-year starter for the Bears and a first-team All-Southland Conference selection, led the conference with five interceptions and was second in pass breakups with 11. Rochell finished the season with 44 total tackles, including 37 solo stops. He also had 2.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

Championship Game, 1/22/2020 @ Toyota Stadium, Frisco, TX:

#1 North Dakota State by 3 vs #2 James Madison, 28-20

For those of us who love the running game, NDSU showed how to do it today with 280+ yards rush of which 166 was from the QB (including a 44 yd TD run), 38 on a fake double reverse TD run and 20 yd fake FG 20yd TD run...….the blocking on these plays were near perfect..... 3 plays for 102 and 3 TDs.... Bisons threw for only 72 yds.....still the game was on the line until the last play with <10 seconds left from the NDSU 5, similar to last season, JMU threw an INT in the Bison endzone….

NDSU was 6/10 pass for 72 and 45/281 (6.4 yd per play avg) …..note only 55 plays...JMU was 22/33 pass for 204 and 44/161 rush (4.7 per play).....77 plays.....Bisons were very efficient at scoring …JMU had 75 yd in penalties and NSU only 53.....

Congrats to NDSU on yet another FCS championship....
