To respond to how high school games might affect the Thursday night game against Tech. It very well could but you have to remember that this year the game is at Tech. Their stadium holds 5,000 if that so it might be best if Conway is in contention.

I would be curious to those of you with access to local high school schedules or a Hooten's Mag ( did I say that :?: ) to see what all high schools do play on that thursday besides Conway. In particular I am meaning all the high schools within about 30 or 40 miles of Russellville that would affect their attendance as well.

I do agree however that if both schools are contending, there will be a nice crowd on hand to say the least.

Got word late Friday evening from the night clerk at the Bucksnort General Store that Conway is looking at the possibility of trying to move that game with Catholic to Friday.

Stay Tuned.

now back to news on theswe boards instead of numbers padding:

BOTH HAVE SOUTH IN THEIR NAME: During a dinner to welcome the visiting party from the Gulf South Conference, Lu Hardin, UCA president, introduced them by saying, "We're pleased to welcome the representatives from the Gulf Sou ... Southland Conference."

BEST FOOTBALL T-SHIRT: In the Hendrix bookstore: "Hendrix football: Undefeated since 1961." (Hendrix hasn't fielded a football team since 1961).

WHY HE'S LAND-LOCKED: Ouachita Baptist University coach Todd Knight had this to say about Luke Woodard, a player who shouldn't go near water: "He was working during the summer for Arkansas Game and Fish and hurt himself when he fell in the water trying to shock fish. Then, he sank a boat while going down the Arkansas River. You can see why we're keeping him in Arkadelphia this summer."

THE RIVALRY HAS ALREADY BEGUN: Arkansas Tech football coach Steve Mullins and new Henderson State coach Scott Maxfield once served as assistants on Henderson State athletic director Sam Goodwin's staff at Northwestern State of Louisiana. "The only fist-fight I ever got into during noon-time pickup basketball games was with Scott," Mullins joked. "And I'm sure glad coach Goodwin broke that up."

BEST JOB OF PUTTING THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE: John Bell, head of the Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation, says of the nationally acclaimed hospital, beneficiary of UCA's Capital City Classic game against Eastern New Mexico: "We've already made Division I and we play every day."

obviously I got these from the LCD, but I didn't see it posted anywhere else....

now back to the worthless posting...

The GSC has an update out about the television crew.
Check the newsstand.

wow, I love to listen to Bob Valvano on the V Show, even if I disagree with him from time to time.

This crew is already a ton better than that one from the first go around the GSC had.

The gentleman Salant finally used a connection and it paid off.

The guy they had doing the games a few years, Matt Parks, just landed the gig as the play by play man for Syracuse. I think at the time he was doing the duties for the Cubs minor league team in Jackson, Tennessee.

Anyway, your right about Nate using a connection. It's good to see it finally paid off.

Jesse Branch will do a good job as a color commentator.
