CONWAY, Ark. _ University of Central Arkansas quarterback Breylin Smith was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for his efforts in UCA's 29-25 victory over Sam Houston State on Saturday.
Smith, a sophomore from Conway, completed 24 of 43 passes for a career-high 405 yards and tied his career high with four touchdown passes, all in the decisive second half. No. 10 UCA rallied from a 16-0 halftime deficit and outscored the No. 21 Bearkats 29-9 in the second half to move into sole possession of first place in the SLC. Smith completed touchdown passes of 40, 53, 28 and 15 yards to a combination of three different receivers. He completed 10 passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns in the second half against the Bearkats.
Smith is the 12th UCA quarterback to throw for 400 yards in a game, and the first since 2013. Smith is the seventh UCA player to win one of the SLC weekly awards this season. For the year,
Smith has completed 65 percent of his passes for 2,414 yards and 20 touchdowns.
