The running game needs to improve
plain and simple, but I'm not
sure if it's feasible at this
point. The 50/50 balls
can't carry the offense from here on out I afraid.

Gotta win....PERIOD!

SFA is putting some things together and we have to be ready for anything they throw at us.

We need the team fire that they had when they played Lamar to show up the next two weeks. Anything less than that and we may find ourselves enjoying the holidays watching the playoffs.

Have not had a chance to compare stats yet, but will look it up later today.

As in most sports (and life endeavors in general), consistency tends to separate the great from the good.

Coach Brown promised during Bear Backers to make a definitive attempt
to find a way to improve the running game. Blocking schemes, motion and
there was a mention of eye candy. Hopefully this will BEAR fruit on Saturday
vs. SFA and the UCA offense will put on a show on the STRIPES.

SFA season

@ Baylor, 17-56
Tarleton State, 26-37
@Southern Utah, 38-45, OT
Nicholls State, 30-48
@Lamar, 24-17
Sam Houston (at Houston), 20-31
@Abiliene Christian, 24-31, 2 OT
McNeese State, 10-33
@Southeastern, 30-47
Incarnate Word, 31-24

Take a look at how Southeastern beat them ….

SLU/SFA
TO: 421 v 471
Rush: 34/222 v 30/68
Pass: 26/33/199/2TDs/1 INT v 30/45/403/3TDs/2 INTs
3rd: 2/9 v 4/11
4th: 3/3 v 1/2
Redzone: 6/6 v 4/4
Sacks: 3/24 v 0/0

Lions had a 65 yd Pick 6.....Lions led 19-10 at half.....Jacks had scoring drives of.....

Trae Self 25/39/332 passing.....Josh McGowen 15/65 rush.....Xavier Gibson catches 8/94....Lar'Darion Cobb 6/88......Quentyvian Borders 4/70....Allen Arclies 3/64...9 different receivers had 1 or more catches....

Jacks did hold Davonte Williams to only 65 yds rush but he had 71 in catches....and Austin Mitchell had only 2 catch for 25

9/75-27 yd TD pass
8/32 with a FG
9/80 - 2 yd run
9/70 - 12 yd TD pass
4/60 - 20 yd TD pass

******

This has the look of a shootout.....neither team relies on the run (2.9 per rush but also 103 per game)....both put up prolific pass numbers.....2700 yds pass for SFA vs 1400 rush....but TDs are 12 via the run and 14 pass...….defense has 7 INTs....18/23 FGs....20 turnovers, 12 INTs and 8 lost fumbles….have given up 28 sacks....35/38 redzone scores but gives up 40/44.....

Both offense and defense have to have a good day for a win by Bears....no misfires like last week.....

Bears 30-29

Anyone know if the Red, White & Blue (decals) on the helmets are on the same helmets that the Bears have worn all year with new decals or new helmets?

Here is why I ask:

I am a veteran and a UCA alum. I would love to purchase one (or a replica) and have the funds go to athletics or another fund that UCA or the Athletics dept is contributing to. Who would I contact?

Phil...email Matt Whiting at AD Office re the helmets....even if not, sounds like a great idea...…

As to the game...we certainly won the LOS today......run game in H2 really showed off...Crossley ran for 94 and Blackman for 83 and Fernandez 59......….263 total rush yards.....pass game timing still off...….left a LOT of points on the field...…..defense was really good.....constant pressure on SFA QB and tackling MUCH better with gang tackling and wrapping up...hats off to D for holding Jacks to only 232 yards total offense....kudos to Hayden Ray for 3 FGs and 3 PATs for 12 points...SFA is not a Southeastern but they have showed they can play well...…….still a big win after a poor game vs Lions......8 D1 wins is important......now to finish on a up note next Friday at UIW and get a share of another SLC crown.....Go Bears!!!!

That game looked a lot better than anything I saw the week before. We looked physical. We looked like we wanted it. Yes, we played a team that is struggling, but we did what we were supposed to do and it reflected in the score.

Let me start with the defense: HUGE kudos to these guys. They brought it this week. Pressure all night on the QB. Had him on the ground a lot. Never let him settle in with the pass game. Limited 95% of all of their runs and defended well from the pass attack. They hit hard this week and caused turnovers.

Offensive had the ground game going. It's been a while since we've put up over 200 yards on the ground. Even Breylin could find running room, and the OC started mixing in designed QB run plays once we saw we could move Breylin effectively.

Special teams were good all night. A few short kickoffs but nothing that we could not cover. The blocked punt was just the icing on the cake for that unit. I knew that after that, it was Carlos time. One play, and we're in.

Overall, a great night to end our home campaign on the Stripes. I had a chance to talk to Breylin after the game. The team knows: 1-0 this week, and most likely hosting round 1 here. Wacky things can happen and maybe we can slide into a seed, but I'm okay not being the #8 seed.
