It's to get TV exposure, as well as play in a "special game". This can help with recruiting. I'm sure they are getting some money out of the deal as well or else they wouldn't be doing it. I would also say it can help, because you get to start a week earlier than everyone else. It could help them with playing a closer game at Missouri, as well as in the conference.

4 home games next year. Wow.

Cool to be part of this but if UCA administration doesn't start NOW with efforts to bus students to this game and start promoting it soon then it's just another road game.

Also Halloween this year the DEMONS come to the stripes. I bet there can be a theme athletic admins can use to promote that game....maybe?!

UCA has got to do SOMETHING to promote these games or opportunities like this will not come around again or very often.

Be a BEAR hero in week Zero!

See you in Montgomery!

That doesn’t answer why the game is not in Conway. Neutral site games in the fcs are simply not well attended. This is a misfire on the NCAAs part

I agree huggy_bear! It makes much more sense for it to be a home game (picked via a coin toss or something, or based upon the scheduling as it was already slated in this case). Looking at the history of this showcase, it used to be home games until 2017. According to Wikipedia: The 2017 edition marked several changes for the event. First, ESPN took ownership of the event through its ESPN Events division. The event was moved to a neutral site (the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama); received a name sponsorship by Guardian Credit Union, a small Montgomery-based credit union;

FCS Kickoff All-Time Scores:
Aug. 23, 2014 Eastern Washington 56, Sam Houston State 35 (Cheney, Wash.)
Aug. 29, 2015 Montana 38, North Dakota State 35 (Missoula, Mont.)
Aug. 27, 2016 North Dakota State 24, Charleston Southern 17 (Fargo, N.D.)
Aug. 26, 2017 Jacksonville State 27, Chattanooga 13 (Montgomery, Ala.)
Aug. 25, 2018 North Carolina A&T 20, Jacksonville State 17 (Montgomery, Ala.)
Aug. 24, 2019 Youngstown State 45, Samford 22 (Montgomery, Ala.)

Seems to be a decent attended game.

Not quite a home game but only 80 miles for Samford and 120 for JSU....at least Bears are typically great road warriors....

I am not trying to be a negative Bear. I've been hoping to see a 6 home games at Estes as long as I can remember. Now it's 4 home games. We are going backwards. I understand what this is about and the benefits that come with it. The powers to be need to make this right with the fans who cannot travel because of work, finances, and physical limitations. How about a 6th home game next season? A D-1 team will not come here for one game. Maybe a game with Ark. Tech ? That game was always a hot ticket. I could easily stay home and watch it on TV. However, I can't do that to my beloved Bears when I'm in position to attend the game. This isn't a rant, just a thought of doing what is right for the fans that support UCA athletics.

There will be no D2 games from any Arkansas schools anytime soon. Their schedule is full with conference games. It also would probably be a slaughter as well. I would appreciate maybe a game with UAPB though.

If I recall we have to travel to Arkansas State next year. That means we will only have 5 home games with most of them coming at the end of the year.

2020 schedule maybe flipped?

2021 games:
9/4- Road vs. Ark. State
9/11- Road vs. Mo. State
Home vs. ACU
Away game vs. Nich.
Home game vs. McNeese
Away game vs. Lamar
Home game vs. SFA
Away game vs. NWST
Home vs. SHSU
Home vs. SLU
Away vs. UIW

Now I know we rotate HBU but I'm not sure when or if that messes up the above possible schedule for 2021.

Because McNeese and SFA couldn’t get their crap together both are ineligible for post season play this season. SFA has to forfeit a bunch of championships and games. Ouch.

a good read...

2020 (maybe?) Missouri Football Opponent Previews: Central Arkansas Bears

If we do end up having a 2020 season Missouri will kick off the young, untested Drinkwitz regime against an FCS Playoff-caliber opponent. What could possibly go wrong?
