This coming Saturday ESPN is doing their sports segement 50 states in 50 days. They will be in Heber Springs covering the cardboard boat races. As the newspaper put it, "come out and enjoy a day of racing and be seen on national TV."

for the whole state of Arkansas, that was the best option they could find to focus on ESPN?

Yea that's kind of what I said....from what I hear they picked Heber Springs b/c of the cardboard boat races @ Greers Ferry. I mean heck they could have at least gotten a possum race or something

If they wanted to catch a possum race they should come down to Possum Valley, AR around the end of October for the Possum Valley Fun Days., where we have a real possum race!

I'm pretty sure (from watching the other 50/50 stories) that the idea is to highlight something that is pretty unique to an area.

I mean there are a ton of great football, basketball, and baseball stories. It is hard to find a good cardboard boat race!

lol...well I'm not originally from arkansas but I do know that they have some good traditions as far as the razorbacks are concerned, but I think the reason they are doing the cardboard boat races is b/c apparently (from what I've heard) they are a pretty big deal. Plus there really isn't much they can cover live in the state of Arkansas other than maybe the Travelers.

yawn

I woke up froma nap and awoke to Houston Nutt trying to answer the ESPNews' anchor's question on "since he was from Arkansas why is he named Houston?"

that is some hard core questioning right there.

ESPN should have went to the Chuck Wagon races today in Mayflower. If you love the "Sooner Schooner" as much as I do, you would have been in heaven.
