UCA Professors YouTube re Oil Spill

Dr. Tim Bisping, an associate professor and chair of the Economics Department, and Dr. Laurie Warren, a lecturer in the Biology Department, recently discussed the economic and environmental impact the oil spill will have on the Gulf Coast. Bisping also touched on the potential impact the disaster could have in Arkansas. Visit UCA’s YouTube page to hear their comments.

This all may be way over our heads but we have lots of friends in South LA....I spoke with a colleague in NOLA today (30+ years in South LA business...not oil and gas) who said it is much worse on the local economies than national news reports. He thinks the oil find is the largest ever in the Gulf and at the end of the day the drilling will be renewed with a requirement to have at least one relief well for each site but that the federal governement is just out of their league in knowing how to handle this mess.

Hope our friends at Lake Charles, Hammond and Thibadoux are not too severely affected.

Kennedy Center President to Speak at UCA

http://www.uca.edu/news/index.php?itemid=2755

Michael M. Kaiser, president of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, will visit the University of Central Arkansas’s Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall on Thurs., July 8, as part of the Arts In Crisis Tour.

The tour began in February 2009 and has included arts community conversations in major cities across the country, including Boston, Chicago, San Diego, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Baltimore, Detroit, Cleveland, New York City, Indianapolis, Louisville, Nashville, Charlotte, Seattle, Grand Rapids, St. Louis, Kansas City, Houston, Dallas, Orlando, Miami, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Phoenix, Bismarck, Santa Fe, Albany, Lincoln, Pierre, Portland, Anchorage, Denver, Salt Lake City and Boise.

NOTE - You might recall that UCA was the home base in 2009 for the National Symphony Orchestra (based at Kennedy Center) ""arts in residence" while in Arkansas. If in DC and you have never been to a performance at the KC, I suggest you check their schedule. This is a wonderful venue for top qualiity entertainment and a terrific view of the Potomac, DC and Arlington. Even an old Bear sports fan enjoys the shows.
