Another scandal, another president paid a whole hell of a lot of money to get out of town. Anybody want to talk about it?

Not sure I would catagorize it as a scandal. Scandals usually require a length of time. This was pretty much a "happened yesterday, gone today" type of thing. I give a lot of credit to the board for seeing that it did not turn into a scandal.

I figure Meadors didn't mention the "string" for one or both reasons. He wanted the money to fix the house to appease his wife (who by my definition is if she was a true first lady of UCA she wouldn't have left to start with) so as to get her back to town or he just made a colossal unintentional screwup by not reporting it. Either way, he screwed the pooch. The end result was justifiable.

I think the board has put any future president of UCA on notice that any dealings concerning UCA will be on the up-and-up or you will be down-and-out.

Meadors is gone because he didn't tell the board of the contingent nature of the Aramark deal. But, from what I've read, the board chairman also knew about the contingency and didn't tell the rest of the board. Roussel skates free?

Also, here's an idea. Next time we hire a president, put something in his/her contract where if they do anything like the last two did, the university doesn't have to pay them a half million dollars to make them leave. Seriously, UCA has lawyers -- use them.

I tend to be a black and white kinda guy. If what happened down there is grounds for dismissal then why in hell is it necessary to reward the firee with a half million dollars?!

Were running a get-rich quick scam. UCA = Unashamed Con-men of Arkansas.

Board should all tender their resignations. Asleep at the wheel again. No fiduciary responsibility.

Maybe the embarrassment and the more negative coverage for UCA is worth the price of not having an "under oath" investigation. Remember, we all raised holy hell about the drawn out procedure of our last fiasco and the embarrassment it caused for the school. I think we are being somewhat hypocritical for chastizing the board now for taking immediate action.

What's the old saying, money solves all problems? We'll persevere through this settlement like we did the last one. IMO, it's kinda like a divorce - if you know it's over then sign the damn papers, get it over with and move on to the next stage of your life. Oh yeah, many of us know that a divorce can be reeeeeaaaaalllll costly - even if we weren't at fault.

This isn't a divorce. It's corruption and failure to supervise. AGAIN

And a divorce ain't? j/k there PP. I'm not especially happy with the money settlement either but if that is what it takes to get rid of a cancer to this university then I'm willing to see it being paid. This man turned out not to be the right hire for UCA and as far as I'm concerned it's almost a Godsend that this "oversight" happened when it did.

HB,I'm not a long time member of Bear Nation so when I ask this I am genuinely seeking information,not arguing or stirring the pot. Other than this mess,what has Meadors done(or maybe NOT done) to deserve the description of "cancer"? He always seemed very approachable and dedicated to his task,but I'm not nearly informed enough to know the whole story here.

And there lies the question. If your morals and ethics are low enough for this, what else have you done that hasnt been revealed yet.
