This bear was hit on 05/07/08 by a truck on Highway 60 west in Perry County between Nimrod and Aplin. The truck was a 2005 1-ton and it had to be towed away. The bears estimated weight is between 400 and 450 pounds. The bear was taken to Little Rock to a taxidermist to be mounted, and hopefully be put in the Nature Center . From the tip of the bears nose to the end of his back foot with his leg stretched out is 7 foot 2 inches.

I feel bad for the poor guy, just walking along, minding his/her own business, and then you get smacked by a 1-ton pickup. Ouch.

Here's a pic of another bear hit by Semi Truck on Monday 5/20 just east of Fourche Junct. The Corps of Engineers helped load the bear, with a tractor, into the Perry Co Wardens truck.

That's horrible.

I've got it, let's turn the "Nature Preserve" in to a bear habitat! Then we could maybe save a few bears from being run down.

I dealt with real bears in Washington, Montana and Wyoming. Believe me, you don't want them anywhere around you.

They're like 500 Lb. racoons with an attitude.

But they look so cuddly sprawled out on the back of a pickup! :D Couldn't we train one to run out on the field in front of the football team before each game?!?!

Both bears and raccoons eat out of trash cans, excluding the UCA Bears of course.

A Texas man was injured Saturday when the motorcycle he was riding hit a bear in Newton County. Corporal Jerry Watts of the Arkansas State Police says 51 year old Dwight Meek of New Braunfels was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville where a spokesperson says he remains in stable condition.
The 1:15 PM accident on state Highway 16 nearly two miles east of Ben Hur occurred when Meek, on a 1984 Honda motorcycle, was traveling east and a bear ran into the path of his bike.

Arkansas used to be "The Bear State"

Looks like the Bears are back. I attribute the resurgence of these grand animals in our state to Clint Conque and Nathan Brown. And maybe Brian Stalworth. Possibly Michael Norvel. Good job guys.

Watch out for bears out there people!! They will destroy your truck!!! And your face.
