I was actually in Yellville the day of the wreck.
I was meeting a few high school friends for a weekend on the Buffalo, and since we had nothing else to do, we planned on going to the football game.

We went into "town" and ate dinner. Obviously everyone in the place was talking about it. Some high school girls came in with puffy, red eyes. It was a pretty emotional place.

When I was in high school, we also had something similar happen my junior year. Two girls - inseparable, best friends - were riding with three other students after getting supplies for a school project. The driver had a seizure/blacked out, and they hit another car head on. One of the girls was pregnant, and the father was one of the other three students in the car. He was getting some looks from bigger D1 schools, but the injuries he suffered only allowed him to go to Alcorn State (I think).

Anyway, it was just pretty weird that the four of us had already lived through that, and now it was happening to Yellville's kids while we were in town.

FYI - Luke's story has been picked up nationally apparently. It was the lead story on my yahoo home page this afternoon.

Yeah I am still recovering from that one. Over 1200 emails, 2 million page views, butt load of phone calls, and the "hey, you're the guy who wrote that story" at Wal Mart, the Grocery store, etc

The interesting one is that the producer who made the movies Rudy and Hoosiers has contacted me wanting to possibly purchase the rights to the story.

At the Bears vs. MS&T game this past Saturday, I got an opportunity to meet some great kids from YS. They are members of the band, and were at the game as part of the Band Day. We chatted for a bit about Mr. Duffy, and what he meant to that school and community. As they were leaving, the gave me a green rubber bracelet with "Kymball Duffy #72" on it.
Talk about getting choked up!
