A core of experienced players back... numerous players that 8-10 points and 7-9 rebs per game is realistic...pretty good height ......new players will certainly have plenty of chances to get on the floor...looking forward to seeing Lasker in purple and gray and seeing how the former Mayflower star can contribute......tough start to the schedule so have to get going off the bat....play that patented tough SB defense and get to the stripe a lot...........Go SugarBears!!

Sugar Bears Picked Sixth in Southland Preseason Poll

FRISCO, Texas — The Southland Conference announced the 2020-21 Women's Basketball Preseason Poll on Wednesday. The University of Central Arkansas women's basketball team was voted to finish sixth by the Southland coaches and sports information directors from each school.

For the second consecutive season, the Sugar Bears were picked to finish sixth in the conference preseason poll. UCA will be led by Briana Trigg and Hannah Langhi. Langhi leads all returners with 236 points, while Briana Trigg leads the returners with 8.7 points per game. Ayanna Trigg and Terri Crawford return with 163 points and 153 points, respectively.

The Sugar Bears add freshmen Jayla Cody and Ruth Balogun along with transfers, Charlay Conway, Lucy Ibeh, Tori Lasker, Lauryn Mapusua, and Anita Payne. Lasker led the Little Rock Trojans last season with 38 3-pointers.

Stephen F. Austin was picked to finish first with 14 first-place votes, followed by Sam Houston State with five, Abilene Christian with four and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with three. Southeastern Louisiana was selected to finish fifth with UCA in sixth.

The 2020-21 season kicks off on in three weeks on Wednesday, Nov. 25. The Sugar Bears travel to Waco, Texas, for a matchup with powerhouse Baylor.

From the Coach – Head Coach Sandra Rushing
"I was really surprised to be ranked that high (sixth) considering how we finished last year. I hope this is a motivating factor for our players. I really don't pay that much attention to preseason polls. A lot of things can happen throughout the season and it's not where you start but where you finish."

UCA @ #13 UAF

UCA 2-10-25-21-58
UAF 24-30-33-18=105

UCA/UAF

FGs: 38% v 54%
3s: 24% v 50%
FTs: 10/13/73% v 13/18/72%
Rebs: 9/26/35 v 11/25/36
TOs: 23 v 9

Jalisa Outlaw led SBs with 22 and Charlay Conway with 10/4/5A....

The game was out of hand from the start as the SBs went 0/14 FGs in Q1 including 0/6 3s.....couple that with 23 TOs and any SEC team will eat you alive...at least we shot 59% FGs in H2....

Next week SBs are home Wed v UALR and Fri vs UAPB.....

UALR is 3-2 with wins at Memphis (61-52), at home vs Vanderbilt (82-74) and at home vs Western Kentucky (63-47).....losses at home to Rice (54-66) and #10 Texas A&M by 56-79.....

UAPB won at Arkansas State by 85-68 and lost at home to the SugarBears by 70-74....they had a home game vs A-State cancelled last week and a trip to Ruston was cancelled for Tuesday...they should have plenty of rest and practice time....

Go SugarBears!!

UALR @ UCA

UALR 13-18-11-18=60
UCA 13-13-9-15=50

FGs: 50% v 36%...SBs were +12 on shots taken
3s: 17% v 31%
FTs: 21/30/70% v 9/13/69%
Rebs: 6/20/26 v 9/16/25
TOs: 19 v 22

Jalisa Outlaw led with 19 on only 33% FGs...Terri Crawford added 9.....basically mediocre shootings while UALR got to the line +17 time.....still in the game until the end....

UCA 18-19-18-17=72

UAPB/UCA

3s: 15% v 46%
FTs: 8/19/42% v 26/44/59%
Rebs: 12/23/35 v 12/32/44
TOs: 19 v 19

3 in double figures...Lucy Ibeh 13....Jalisa Outlaw and Savannah Walker had 12...Brianna Trigg had a solid 8/10 game....10 scored........FG % better than vs UALR but FT shooting atrocious missing 18....good to get a win...

UCA @ Mississippi State

UCA 10-4-18-17=49
MSU 22-19-15-16=72

UCA/MSU

FGs: 23% vs 43%
3s: 30% vs 29%
FTs: 22-24/92% v 16-27/59%
Rebs: 7/29/36 v 11/34/45
TOs: 18 v 14

H1 not good.....badly out rebounded....lights out at FT line.....poor shooting from field....

Jalisa Outlaw a strong 19 but almost all FTs (14/15)....they count....Lucy Ibeh a solid 7/7 game....Tori Lasker 7/4.....

Next up at McNeese on 1/2/21 at 1pm..Go SugarBears!!

UCA@McNeese

UCA 6-9-17-13=45
MSU 14-21-10-14=59

UCA/MSU
FGs: 29% v 38%...UCA +4 on shots and MSU +3 on shots made
3s: 12% v 35%.....UCA made 1..MSU made 6
FTs: 14/24/58% v 17/24/71%
Rebs: 24/24/51 v 6/19/25..that's right, UCA is +26 and loses the game....
TOs: 32 v 15.....but 17 more TOs overcomes rebounding advantage

Winning on the road is never easy it seems but a winless team stuffs us ...got to be a downer ....

No SB in double figure......Cody led with 9/7....Crawford at 8/6 but with 6 TOs....Brianna T at 8/4...Ayannna T took 8 rebs..

Need better effort Wed at UNO......Go SugarBears!!

SHS@UCA

SHS 11-17-21-18=67
UCA 11-15-22-12=60

SHS/UCA
FGs: 38% vs 42%.....SBs were +10 made 2s....
3s: 33% v 0%...Sam was +6 made....18-0 advantage
FTs: 57% v 71%....stills Kats were +9 made
Rebs: 16/21/37 v 15/22/37
TOs: 23 v 29.....pretty sloppy game with the ball......Sam had 14 steals!!!

Walker led on offense with a solid 16/3/2A/1S....Lasker a very good 13/5/5A/2S...Langhi a nice game with 10/7/2B......largely offset by the three making a combined 17 TOs...........wow...

Winnable game left on the court..........29 TOs (with 14 steals given up) is just not a winning formula.....Kats had two with 20+ points including Amber Leggett's 23/10 double double...

Suit up again at home on Wed vs Jacks and play better handling the ball and not putting the opponent on the line 37 times....

Go SugarBears!!

FGs: 32% v 39%....and SBs +11 shots taken
3s: 22% v 36%....SBs +2 made
FTs: 70% v 80%...Colonels +2 made
Rebs: 6/19/25 v 14/25/39...excellent
TOs: 20 v 17

Game ball to Lucy Ibeh who had a 31/15/7S effort.....11/17 FGs and 9/11 FTs....wow...7 other scored....
