here is the release:
CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears have bolstered their women's basketball coaching staff with the hiring of new assistant Audrey Seeger from Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State. Seeger was a graduate assistant with the Bearkats last season while completing her master's degree coursework.
"It's a big plus for our program bringing in Coach Seeger," UCA head coach Checola Seals-Horton said. "With her coming from a Division I program and being in the Southland Conference, that really worked in her favor and will be a great help to our program. She knows the conference and what we're trying to do and where we need to be."
Seeger was with the Bearkats for four years in all, first serving as a manager, then student assistant, before moving up to graduate assistant for the 2006-07 season. The opportunity of a full-time assistant position was enough to lure away Seeger, who was first impressed with UCA when SHSU came to Conway on Feb. 10.
"We came up here to play during the conference season and it seemed like a nice campus and the coaching staff was real nice," she said. "It seemed like a place I could fit in and do something with."
A 2001 graduate of Lorena (Texas) High, Seeger followed a four-year career with the Leopards by joining the Highlassies of McLennan Community College in Waco. After two years there, she moved on to SHSU in Huntsville, where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in Kinesiology in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
"WIth her having that Texas background, that's great for us," Seals-Horton said. "We're wanting to get more into the Texas area. We've been able to get some kids from there – Shannon Oden, Whitney Betts, Alex Velazquez are from Texas, along with incoming freshman Jamye Adair. But we're trying to get our Texas base to grow. We feel like Coach Seeger can come in and help us to do that. And with her having been in the conference longer than we have, it'll help us get acclimated.
