SugarBears hit the road after a heartbreaking home loss to TAMCC by 52-50. Let's hope for a better start this week...need to win those first and last 5 minutes of each half......
SBs are 4-10/0-1 while SFA is 5-8/0-1 with a SLC road loss to Sam Houston by 68-65.
SFA has notable home wins over Tulsa (59-55), New Orleans (66-63) and Housotn Baptist (82-70). Losses of note: at Memphis (64-52), at Grambling (65-64), at Auburn (79-56) and at Missouri State (82-63).
SFA's Tammara Marion is #3 in SLC in 3s at 41.4% and #16 in scoring at 10.6. UCA's Destinee Rogers and Jamye Adair are #20 and #22 in scoring at 9.8 and 9.5. Ebony Alexander of SFA is #4 in assists at 3.9 and #10 in steal at 1.7 while teammate Whitney Cormier is #3 in steals at 2.1. Mariesha Piggee is #5 for UCA at 1.9 per game. UCA's Chorcelle Taylor and Meaghen Kelleybrew are #4 and #5 in shots blocked at 1.4 and 1.2.
Season stats for these teams are preetty close...boths core about 56-60 and give up about 68-70. Both shoot about 65% FTs, 37% for FGs and FG defense is about 41%. SFA shoots 3s a bit better at 32% vs 28% but both give up about 31%%. Rebounding is also close (about 37-38) as are offensive rebounds (13-14). Assists are both about 11.2-115. SFA (#2 in SLC vs UCA #5) has slight edge in steals (9.8-8.8) while UCA (#1 in SLC) leads in blocked shots (4.3-2.6). Both trunover the ball over about 22 per game although SFA force about 1.5 per game more.
Looks like another game that with a solid effort is winnable......UCA beat Grambling at home while SFA narrowly lost at Grambling and UCA lost to Houston Baptist while SFA won......

SFA 76 (6-8/1-1)
UCA 66 (4-11/0-2)
Good effort but just short...trailed by 5 at half and pulled to 52-50 but SFA called a TO and got back in sync and put it away...14 lead changes in game
Chorcelle Taylor had a fine night with 22 points on 10/14 shooting with 2/3 FTs plus 5 Rs, 3 As, 4 Bs and 1 S..foulded out...26 minutes....
Nakia Guiden put in 12 and Jayme Adair 9 and Destinee Rogers with 8....
Stats summary:
UCA/SFA
FG: 24/51=47%/28/55=51%
3s: 4/13=31%/4/11=36%
FTs: 14/22=63%/16/24=67%
Rebs: 33/32
Turns: 26/19
Turnovers made the difference....
Coach Matt: little things hurt....scored points better.....getting closer to where we need to be.....played hard, shot OK....out rebounded SFA....still battling and growing.....pleased with effort but disappointed with loss...some mental errors and lost foscus for a few minutes and game got away...need to make better decisions.....
Note: Great game call by SteveO....got a bit excited at times!!!

I realize it is still early in the year and very early in Coach Daniel's tenure here but I really see some positives with this team.
We are young, playing hard and improving and from what I gather had an excellent recruiting year.
I truly believe the Sugar Bears are going to win several conference games this year and be a force in the conference in the near future.
