Sam Houston (7-15/4-4) 62
UCA (6-16/2-7) 58

SHS/UCA:

FGs: 18/50=36%; 19/60 = 31%
3s: 8/19=42%; 7/33 = 21%
FTs: 18/26=69%; 13/19=68%
R: 41;38
PIP: 14;24
2CP: 12;15
FBP: 2;4
Bench: 37;9

SBs leaders:
Jayme Adair: 14 pts, 7r,1a,1s
Meghan Kelleybrew: 11pts, 5r,4a,1s
Destinee Rogers: 11 pts, 8r, 6a, 2s

Coach: Gave ourselves a chance to win...a couple of mishaps on defense near the end gave SHS a chance .....we did not exectute the offense when we had the ball at the end when we could have tied with the last shot....we were slow on rotation in 2nd half and they hit three 3s...hard tro overcome those 9 points in a close game...tough game coming up against UTSA....got to have more production off the bench.....

Next game: Wed at Farris Center at 7pm vs SLC defending champ UT-San Antonio

BEARKATS DEAL SUGAR BEARS ANOTHER CLOSE LOSS
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL • Feb 7, 2009

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — In an all-too-familiar scenario; it was another close game, another narrow miss for the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears on Saturday as they fell 62-58 to the Sam Houston State Bearkats. It was the fifth loss by five points or less this season for UCA, and the third in Southland Conference play...

I know you don't get an moral, or style points for close losses, but compared to where we were a season ago, we have improved so much! One of these days this ship is going to turn around! I've at least seen a light at the end of the tunnel now, if they will just keep improving!

After a year of experience, hopefully next year these ladies will be winning these close game!

Losses of 5 points or fewer:
Men - 2 of 13; 1 in conference play
Women - 5 of 16; 2 in conference play (with no NAIA teams on the schedule either)

While the record does not necessarily show it, this group is a much better team than last year...they are one possession from winning those games which comes with maturity as a group.
