M. Piggee (had 1 year left of eligibility)
C. Taylor (graduated)
Lee (transfer to SAU)
Bolden (graduated)
LB Anderson (had 2 years left)
M. Kelleybrew (had 1 year left)
W. Betts (1 year left)
A. Sherman (transfer to WTAM)
D. Rogers (transfer to SAU)

7 players not back that could have been. A 6-23 season will definitely induce changes. Only Rogers was a Daniel recruit.

This is getting rather confusing. Looks like we have 4 players with eligibility left that are not coming back next year? Unless we get some juco players we are going to be all frosh and sophs and two juniors.

Yep. So much for looking forward to our experience...

I have heard really good things about the Herbert girl from Shiloh.

She got some sisters or cousins? It's looking like all help will be at a premium next year. But I'll give coach his due. He is willing to wreck his resume for about three years it looks like to get to a point that he will have confidence in his program.

Actually, I am pretty sure it is Aly Sherman who made her decision mid season to go to West Texas A&M...not anderson

Wow, you are on top of things. I don't think she even knew yet that's where she was going. Have you told her yet? I can't imagine she's going to be too thrilled by this development.

I'm also going to go on the record here, despite rampant rumors and misconceptions, the fact is, there were only 4 players informed they would no longer be playing basketball for UCA on Monday. He in fact, did NOT release the entire team which has gotten back to me. I hope this clears up any confusion over what had happened Monday.

That said, we will be EXTREMELY YOUNG next season. May even have some more growing pains, but I do feel like we are moving forward because we are all fed up with losing!

That is/was actually a rampant rumor? What in the world would lead anybody to think there are zero players left?

On here obviously, the thread is even called "And then there were 5" and there's a link to the depleted roster that still has names on it. So everybody here should've already been pretty aware. I don't know if there was any confusion here ... you might need to send word back wherever that came from if you haven't already.

Did it somehow get around town that the entire roster was cut? That's kind of insane. I guess it just takes one person saying "yeah he just cut the whole team!" and somebody else takes it literally and tells 10 people and they each tell 10 people and there you go. It's amazing how far gone from the truth things can get pretty quickly.

Yep. Especially when one or two misunderstand one thing and then it goes to another place and gets turned into something else etc., etc., etc...

EXACTLY!

Daniel releases four Sugar Bears from scholarships

By DAVID MCCOLLUM
LOG CABIN STAFF WRITER

University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bear coach Matt Daniel continued major restructuring of his basketball program by releasing four players from their scholarships this week.

Sophomore guard Laura Beth Anderson, junior guard Mariesha Piggee and junior forwards Meaghan Kelleybrew and Whitney Betts will not return to the team next year, Daniel said. He had previously announced that junior forward Kia Lee was transferring to Southern Arkansas University, freshman guard Aly Sherman was transferring to West Texas-A&M and freshman guard Destinee Rogers, who was dismissed from the team a week ago, will transfer to SAU.

That leaves the Sugar Bears with five players from last season's 6-23 team: freshmen Nakeia Guiden, Jasmine Canser, Megan Moss and Marci Moffitt and sophomore Jayme Adair. Moffitt, a non-scholarship player last season, has been placed on scholarship, Daniel said...

Oh that's real classy by the coach

What happened to commitment? These girls gave their commitment a few years back to UCA; they could have gone somewhere else. Not trying to start a controversy but there seems to be an integrity issue here.

From what I've heard (from a very good source), these young women are absolutely devastated right now. There was nothing fair at all about this action . How would anybody feel if they gave three years of hard work and dedication to a program and then the program just decides to just cut ties with you all the sudden?

This action could come back to haunt this coach someday when it comes down to recruiting.

I'm very proud to be fan, letterman, and alumnus of UCA, but I will say I'm very disappointed with this coach and our athletic department for letting something like this happen to these young women.
