after 2 games, despite two losses, I'm encouraged about what I saw for the future of this program. Friday night, especially the 1st half, was the best I think I've seen us play since our last SLC road win at SELA way back in February of 08, where we dominated from start to finish in a win, at least on the road.
The FR excelled for the most part this weekend, then again, they have no choice! 2 double-doubles by Megan Herbert, Micah Rice was steady at the PG position, she play 67 minutes over the weekend, and turned the ball over a grand total of 2 times. She also set a school record the 1st time she put on her uniform by going 13-13 at the FT line. We have 3 players averaging in double figure scoring after 2 games, which I know isnt a lot of sample size, but I dont THINK that has happened since I came back 4 seasons ago for sure. I also cant remember the last time we had a player average double figure rebounds, which Herbert is doing right now. Heck, FR Westin Taylor is averaging 7.5 boards a game too right now.
We've turned the ball over 31 times in 2 games, which I know is still a lot to most teams, but since we have in the past few years turned it over that many times in 1 game I believe once, maybe twice, it all runs together, we are improving, which is exactly what I, and I know others, have wanted to see. They are a LONG WAY from being a finished product no doubt, and there is still going to be the need for patience with this group, but the future is starting to look brighter.
