The 6-2 Sugar Bears host Southeast Mo. State Saturday afternoon at 2 pm in the Farris Center. We come in with the best winning pct. in the entire SLC, and have the longest win streak at 6 games coming into play this weekend. It will also be the last time to see the girls in action at home until January 5th.

As if that isnt enough, we are also in the top of nearly all offensive categories in the SLC and fairly high in some nationally. Plus, Herbert, Taylor and Rice are also at the top in several categories of their own.

SEMO comes in struggling. They are 3-6, been off a week for their finals. They have lost 6 of thier last 7 including losing at home to UT-Arlington 66-54 their last game. We havent beaten SEMO in 3 tries since we have moved up to D1.

[/url]

With 292 wins over the past 15 seasons, just six times in that span has a Central Arkansas women’s basketball team won seven or more games consecutively. On Saturday, this year’s Sugar Bears will be looking to make it seven as they host Southeast Missouri State at 2 p.m. in the Farris Center in UCA’s final home game of 2009.

SEMO has defeated the Sugar Bears three years in a row, including a 31-point win in the Farris Center two years ago – a season in which they were Ohio Valley Conference champions. Last season, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the Sugar Bears were able to play it a little closer – though not nearly close enough – losing by 19.

The Redhawks come into the game averaging 55.9 points per outing with no player averaging double figures. UCA is among the nation’s highest-scoring teams at 83.1 points per game and has three players in double figures – Megan Herbert (23.6), Westin Taylor (13.5) and Desiree’ Rogers (12.6). Herbert, who has recorded eight straight double-doubles and will have the opportunity to tie Checola Seals’ record of nine, is also averaging 13.3 rebounds per game. Over her last three games, Herbert has averaged 37 points and 14.3 rebounds.

It's great to witness mental toughness by any UCA team. What's amazing is these girls are all freshman and sophomores. Most teams as young as we are would have folded when down by eleven late in the second half.Way to go ladies! It's fun again to attend a Sugar Bears basketball game!

I think you're right on that, although obviously I'm a little biased!
But yesterday was the 2nd time this home stand we fell behind by 10 points or more, and instead of giving in and just letting the other team have their way with us, we were patient, didn't force things, played under control, and got ourselves back into the game, quickly, with Defense! Tulsa jumped on us by 10 right out of the gate (14-4) before we fought back. And then yesterday, SEMO had us by 8 in the 1st half, and obviously the 11 point deficit in the 2nd half. To me, yesterday was more frustrating than the TU game because the girls just could not hit a shot that didnt count as a FT for the most part, esp in the 1st half. And there were many open looks too, they just wouldnt fall. But they kept plugging along and didnt let it affect them overall and found a way to come from behind and win a game!

FREE THROWS, DEFENSE SPARK SUGAR BEARS IN COMEBACK WIN OVER SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL • Dec 19, 2009

CONWAY — Despite their worst shooting effort of the season and an 11-point second-half deficit, Central Arkansas was able to overcome its woes and the Sugar Bears closed out their homestand with their seventh straight win by defeating Southeast Missouri 72-64 in the Farris Center on Saturday.

Although they shot just 26.6 percent (17 of 64) from the field and 15.4 percent (4 of 26) from the 3-point line, the Sugar Bears were able to walk away with a sweep of their seven-game homestand thanks to two staples of winning basketball – defense and free throws.

UCA (7-2) converted 34 of 37 attempts at the line (91.9 percent) and forced the Redhawks (3-7) into 24 turnovers, converting those to 29 points. Conversely, UCA committed just 12 turnovers which led to 9 points for the Redhawks...
