Megan Herbert Named Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas - Central Arkansas freshman forward Megan Herbert was named the Southland women's basketball player of the week by vote of the league's sports information directors the conference announced Monday. Herbert is the first league player to receive two player of the week awards this season.

Herbert, a native of Rogers, Ark., averaged 34 points and 15 rebounds while guiding the Sugar Bears to their sixth and seventh consecutive wins to complete a sweep of a seven-game home stand in Conway, Ark. Herbert ran her double-double streak to a league-best nine games tying the UCA record for most consecutive in a season. She had career-high 38 points vs. Wiley Dec. 14 and followed that with a career-high 19 rebounds against Southeast Missouri State Dec. 19. Herbert shot 61.8 percent from the field, 60 percent from three-point range and 95.8 percent (23-24) from the free throw line, including an 18-of-19 performance against Southeast Missouri State. She almost single-handedly engineered the comeback against Southeast Missouri State with nine points, four rebounds, a steal and an assist in three minutes to bring Central Arkansas back from 11 down in the second half.

Getting this young lady to come to UCA by Coach Daniel has to be the steal of the year for women's bb in this state, maybe even the region. There's two or three more that fall in right behind her also. Congrats to Miss Megan.

Phenomenal freshman

UCA’s Herbert ranks among nation’s best

NICK WALKER ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

CONWAY — It’s not supposed to be this easy.
Central Arkansas forward Megan Herbert is averaging 24.3 points and 13.9 rebounds per game through her first nine games as a freshman. Both rank in the top 15 in the nation.
In fact, her rebounding average leads the nation. Additionally, she’s had at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in nine consecutive games to start her college career.
That’s a long way from the 33 consecutive times that former Oklahoma standout Courtney Paris managed the feat from 2006-2007, but it does put Herbert near very elite company. She’s just one away from cracking the top 20 for most consecutive games with at least 10 in two statistical categories.
Herbert has twice been named Southland Conference women’s basketball player of the week, the only player to achieve that recognition more than once this year.
“It’s not easy, and, in fact, she’d be the first to tell you that it isn’t,” Central Arkansas Coach Matt Daniel said.

Megan Herbert Named Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas - Central Arkansas freshman forward Megan Herbert was named the Southland women's basketball player of the week by vote of the league's sports information directors the conference office announced Monday. Herbert receives her league-leading third award of the season and is the first league player to receive two consecutive player of the week awards this year.

Herbert, a native of Rogers, Ark., broke the Central Arkansas record for consecutive double-doubles by recording her 10th straight in leading the Sugar Bears to their eighth straight win in a 52-47 come-from-behind victory at Eastern Kentucky of the Ohio Valley Conference. Herbert had game highs with 20 points and 13 rebounds and shot 53.8 percent from the field to guide the Sugar Bears to just its fourth non-conference road win since moving to Division I and joining the Southland Conference in 2006.
