tonight, leading off the doubleheader at the Farris Center. Sugar Bears who are 9-3 and won 9 of our last 10, host Houston Baptist who comes in 2-12 losers of their last 5 or 6. This is the last non-conference opponent the SBs are trying to defeat who beat them last season (Tulsa, Jackson St, SEMO were the other 3). It's also a chance to pick up a 10th win before SLC play starts Saturday afternoon at 1 pm. See you there tonight!

SUGAR BEARS STRIVING FOR HOME PERFECTION IN FINAL NON-CONFERENCE CLASH
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL • Jan 4, 2010

After three road games and a holiday break, the Sugar Bears return to the Farris Center on Tuesday for the first time since Dec. 19 seeking their 10th win of the season and looking to keep their home mark unblemished when they take on Houston Baptist at 5:30 p.m.

“We’re glad to be back home and we hope everyone is glad to have us home,” UCA head coach Matt Daniel said. “We feel like we’re headed in the right direction, and we hope that’s reflected in our fan base. It’s an early game at 5:30, so pick the kids up, grab a bite to eat and let’s go. Let’s get going and get this thing done, and get it done together – the university, the city of Conway and the Sugar Bears.”...

[/url]

Quote:
In their final non-conference game of the season, the Sugar Bears won for the 10th time in 11 games to improve to 10-3 for the season and remain perfect at home, moving to 8-0 in the Farris Center and securing their highest non-conference win total since 2002-03.
The 40-point victory was the Sugar Bears' fifth this season by 40 or more and was the largest margin of victory for UCA over a Division I team, with the previous best being an 18-point win at Sam Houston State two years ago.

It was the fourth win of the year for the Sugar Bears over a team that had defeated them last season, having already defeated Tulsa, Jackson State and Southeast Missouri.

Interesting tidbit...

heading into conference play, the Sugar Bears have the league's best record at 10-3. However, they are 9th in home attendance and dead freaking last in overall attendance.

Go team.

Time will tell but I think more and more will start attending if this keeps up. Rome wasn't built in a day (or 10 wins in this case).

Sugar Bears coast to 106-66 victory
Posted: January 5, 2010 - 9:39pm

LOG CABIN STAFF WRITER

The University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears buried Houston Baptist with balance Tuesday night.

UCA finished its non-conference season with a 106-66 thumping of the Huskies at the Farris Center. Last year in Houston, the Huskies downed the Sugar Bears by five but are in a rebuilding phase this season at 2-13.

There was no real drama in the game...
