The Sugar Bears play a home game Wednesday night at the Farris Center vs. Southeastern Louisiana at 7 pm. The girls have won 3 in a row, and are now 13-5 overall. The 3-2 SLC mark is the first time since the move up that we have been above .500 in SLC play, and currently sit only 1 game behind SFA for 1st in the SLC East. They swept their trip into south LA last week with a pair of wins over Nicholls and McNeese in what was an enjoyable trip! I'm guessing the wins had a lot to do with that, and the 70-80 degree weather, too...

SELA enters with an 8-10 record overall, they are 2-3 in SLC play. They have lost their leading scorer, but are still very dangerous without her. I hope anyone and everyone can make it out and support these girls, they deserve a big boisterous UCA crowd too! If you cant make it out for whatever reason, pregame begins at 6:45 on The Bear 91.3 and UCAsports.com.

BF,

What style of play does this team bring to the Farris Center? Are they more defensively driven or offensive leaning? How do the girls matchup one on one? All good questions you can answer on the pregame.

This is a game you simply do not let get away at home.....SugarBears should win with a solid effort...take nothing for granted in playing a team that played well AT Alabama and took two from UL-Lafayette....need a loud crowd to help out.....

SUGAR BEARS COME HOME SEEKING FOURTH STRAIGHT
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL • Jan 27, 2010

Riding a three-game winning streak, the second longest in the Southland Conference, the Sugar Bears return home tonight looking for their fourth straight and their 10th home win of the season when Southeastern Louisiana comes calling tonight at 7.

After sweeping a road trip through southern Louisiana at Nicholls and McNeese State last week, the Sugar Bears sit at 13-5 overall and 3-2 in the league. They have now tied their win total from the previous two seasons combined, and sit above .500 in Southland action for the first time in their brief history in the conference...

SLC Overall

East Division
Stephen F. Austin 4-1
Northwestern State 3-1
Central Arkansas 3-2
Southeastern Louisiana 2-3
McNeese State 0-4
Nicholls 0-5

West Division
Lamar 5-0
Texas A&M Corpus Christi 4-1
UTSA 3-1
Sam Houston State 2-2
UT Arlington 2-3
Texas State 0-5

So now that we have beaten the tems we are should beat this year and gained some confidence in conference, I think many more wins will follow. We sit in 6th overall right now and I bet we finish higher than that.

What do you think Beary Manilow??????????

Herbert get another double double and sat for quite a while in the second half...she's now #2 alltime in DDs. The rest of the team played great. Don't mean to focus on her accomplishments. Looks like the SugarBears have awaken!

Good team play...balanced scoring....that is always good.....not to get ahead of a very young team but they might just get to 20 wins...that would be "huge"....they have already hit "super"....got to win those we should win (like tonight) and the take a couple as the underdog.....

Go SugarBears!!!!!

SUGAR BEARS CRUISE TO BIGGEST SOUTHLAND WIN; HERBERT PASSES MILLER FOR SECOND
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL • Jan 27, 2010

CONWAY — With several milestones at stake Wednesday night, Central Arkansas wasted little time in ensuring it would reach them all – dominating Southeastern Louisiana from the outset in its most convincing Southland Conference win to date, rolling past the Lady Lions 75-55 in the Farris Center.

The Sugar Bears won their fourth straight league game – tying their best Southland streak – and improved to 14-5 overall (4-2 Southland) to tie their highest win total for a season since making the move to Division I in 2006-07, when UCA finished the year 14-14.

Megan Herbert had 14 first-half rebounds and, after playing a limited role in the second half, finished with team highs of 15 points and 15 boards for her 19th consecutive double-double to move her past Cheryl Miller and into a tie with Anne Donovan for the second-longest streak ever by a Division I player...

Sugar Bears take command early in 75-55 victory
Posted: January 27, 2010 - 11:01pm
By David McCollum

The University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears settled the major details early Wednesday night.

They pulled away to a 20-point lead in the first 15 minutes in a 75-55 romp over Southeastern Louisiana at the Farris Center.

Freshman post Megan Herbert secured her 19th straight double-double one minute into the second half. That ties her with Anne Donovan for second on the all-time NCAA list for consecutive double-doubles.

The rest was cleanup and detail...
