The Lady Cardinals of Lamar come into the Farris Center as the 1st place team in the SLC with a 17-4 (7-0) [RPI 122] record to take on the 3rd place (1st in the SLC East) Sugarbears who have a 15-5 (5-2) [RPI 261] record. Tipoff is at 7:00 pm Wednesday!

This is a HUGE game for the Sugarbears! Lamar is obviously, undefeated on the road in SLC play, but 2 those wins have been very close(@UTA 67-63, @McNeese 68-65, @TX State 82-59). The only direct comparable is @McNeese...we beat them 76-58. Take it for what it's worth...but this is going to be one heck of a game on Wednesday!

keep in mind, McNeese is also Lamar's main/blood rival, and in rivalry games everything is different.

Lamar is on a 7 game winning steak. They bring in possibly the other 2 candidates for SLC Player and/or FR of the Year with Jeanna Plumlee (a JR, former starter at Univ. of Oklahoma) and Kalis Loyd (a FR from Sweden) Those would be my main 'threats' to Megan off the top of my head, if there is even such a thing. In fact, I'm sure I just butchered the point I was trying to make, but you get the point.

We come in the 2nd hottest team in the league (won 5 in a row), and with the 2nd best overall record in the league (15-5), behind...Lamar. Their 4 losses have been all road losses at Minnesota, Baylor, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M, with Baylor and Texas A&M in the top 25 last week.

I'm careful to put the tag 'HUGE' on this game, but it is a big game, I guess. But it's still just 1 of 9 left on the schedule, and we still have 5 left within our Eastern Division. But it would be a very big win if it came down to it, if we are fortunate enough to do so. Talking to a couple of people they thought the game with Lamar might be/would be a good measuring stick to see how far we've come since the TAMCC and SFA games, I tend to think so, too.

I really, really hope we have a very good, and VOCAL crowd out for the girls on Wednesday night! (and even Saturday afternoon as well) They are playing their tails off and deserve the support!

We are going to have one Wednesday night. Oh and consider it done as far having a good vocal crowd (I myself will be there proud and loud). I am so proud of this team. They are doing so well. I am looking forward to this week.

Lamar (17-4/7-0), SLC/West leader, 7 game win streak
UCA (15-5/5-2)), SLC/East leader, 5 game win streak

Lamar would be favored based on record and schedule but stats are close. UCA has an edge in rebounding, FT%, 3s defense and home court. Lamar has advantage in FG% and TOs. If SBs can keep their heads, play smothering defense and get to FT stripe a lot, this could be nip and tuck.

SUGAR BEARS HOST LAMAR IN CLASH OF DIVISION LEADERS
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL • Feb 2, 2010

With the Lamar Lady Cardinals – the Southland’s most dominant team to date with a 17-4 overall record and unblemished league mark of 7-0 – coming into the Farris Center Wednesday night, there’s a possibility that the East Division co-leading Sugar Bears won’t be celebrating after the game.

There will, however, undoubtedly be a celebration beforehand.

Freshman forward Megan Herbert will be honored prior to tipoff for achieving her 20th consecutive double-double last weekend in a win at Northwestern State, moving her past women’s basketball legends Cheryl Miller and Anne Donovan for the second-longest streak ever in NCAA Division I. Herbert will also have her high school jersey retired at Shiloh Christian on Friday...
