The 16-5 Sugar Bears are home again Saturday afternoon taking on another SLC Western Division opponent, the Sam Houston State Bearkats at 2 pm from the Farris Center.

Sam Houston comes in having dropped their last 3 games and having a record of 5-14 overall. They stand 2-6 in SLC play and sit in 5th place in the SLC West, their wins being Texas State and an OT win over UT-Arlington.

UCA has won 6 straight and still holds a share of the SLC East lead with SFA with matching 6-2 SLC records, with NW State a half game behind with a 5-2 conference mark. If you cant make it out, pregame begins at 1:45 on The Bear 91.3 and UCAsports.com

UCA (16-5/6-2), SLC/East co-leader with SFA
Sam Houston State, (5-14/2-5), 5th in SLC//West

Cannot take this team for granted. Pre-SLC schedule was tough and distorts record. UCA leads in all stat categories but SHS has three double digit scores and two 47% shooters from field.

SHS SLC wins were on road vs Texas State by 85-81 and at home over UTA 77-75 in OT last Sat.

SBs have a shot at taking sole possession in East as SFA hosts Lamar who will be looking to get back on track.

Let's take care of business at the FC...Go SugarBears!!

Solid first half...a little inconsistent and TOs too high....shooting OK but not great....rebounding is awesome at a 32-13 margin....Herbert and Rogers have 20 points and 13 rebounds combined....

SHS 29-34=63 (5-15/2-6)
UCA 45-37=82 (17-5/7-2)

Another solid win for the SBs even though they shot pretty mediocre (38% FG/28% 3s) ....defense won this game....SHS shot poorly (29% FG) and were badly out rebounded by UCA (42-59)...SBs got a little sloppy with 17 TOs...some were when they were up 20 or so and just running an gunning....

Megan extends DD streak to 22 with 20/16 game and Desiree Rogers also put up an excellent DD with 15/10. Westin Taylor scored 11.

Coach: Came out pretty strong and at end of half with a lull in between....we were tired....glad to have had two home games this week...you can always control defensive effort...elated with outcomes but need better inputs....started off 0-2 and it took a while to figure what level we had to plat at....growing confidence to help others make plays....when they play that way it is fun to watch...UT-San Antonio is experienced and has been to NCAAs the past two years....good to got to San Anotnio with a 7 game win streak...

A=722

Sum this up as taking care of business...

Go SugarBears and get some Roadrunners next Wed...tip at 7pm

SUGAR BEARS WIN SEVENTH STRAIGHT, REMAIN IN FIRST PLACE
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL • Feb 6, 2010

CONWAY — Central Arkansas took control early on Saturday with runs of 11-0 and 15-3 in the first half to build a commanding lead against Sam Houston State, then stretched it to as many as 25 in the second half and cruised to an 82-63 win over the Bearkats in the Farris Center.

With the win, the Sugar Bears (17-5, 7-2 Southland) collect their seventh straight victory and remain at least tied atop the Southland's East Division standings pending the result of Saturday night's game between Stephen F. Austin and Lamar. It was the fourth straight loss for the Bearkats (5-15, 2-6). UCA has now won five of the seven by double digits and its average margin of victory during the win streak is 13.7...

Sugar Bears start fast for 7th-straight win
Posted: February 6, 2010 - 8:43pm
By David McCollum

The University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears removed all drama early against cold-shooting Sam Houston and glided to their seventh-straight victory Saturday, 82-63, at the Farris Center.

The victory kept the Sugar Bears (17-5, 7-2) in a least a tie for first in the Southland Conference East. The Bearkats fell to 5-15, 2-6.

“We went out the first half and played well, but hit a lull toward the end, but our kids our tired, man,” UCA coach Matt Daniel said. “They are battling their tails off to get to 17-5. And Sam Houston is a feisty team.”...
