UCA (20-6/10-3), East leader
SELA (10-16/4-9), 4th in East, 7-7 at home

Tip at 3pm in Hammond

Last 3 games:
Loss at home to TAMCC by 75-67
Loss at SFA by 80-65
Loss at home to UTA by 74-64

Loss to UCA at FC on 1/27 by 75-55

Stats and record and recent trends show a SB win in the cards... however, teams desparate for wins and looking to have a winning record at home and a tourney spot can become dangerous. This is no time to take the day off...Coach no doubt is preaching that on the ride down...

Go SugarBears!!

The SBs were not kind to the SBs. They'll bounce back against the Lumberjerks.

I think the rigors or a long hard college season are finally catching up with the Sugar Bears. You could see signs of this over the past few weeks.

We have a group of very young players. Most of the minutes are coming from young ladies who have never been away from home before, have never had these long road trips, have never had to manage their own time and diet before (at least not to this extent), have not been through a college off-season program (in the case of the sophs have only been through one), and who are playing too many minutes (Megan Herbert being the classic case).

I am not saying we will win every game next year, heck we may not win as many, but as Coach Daniel adds some depth to the team (this year's redshirts, incoming freshmen) so that he can rest everyone a few minutes each half and these young ladies mature and get stronger physically and mentally I do not believe you will see this type of complet melt-down in future years.

I was just fixing to say the same thing. I think they still got just a little left in their tank. Will win one of the two left.

Now all we need is to get a better RPI and the ladies fueled up right before the tourney! Go Sugar Bears!

If I may add also that after we had the season we had last year that the following year we would see a 20 win season and have our women's program with higher attendance than our men's.

Finish strong ladies. Not much further to go!!!

What do we need a better RPI for?

You can't get a high enough RPI in the Southland for it to matter. You either win the conference tournament to get into the NCAAs or you don't. Simple as that. And that's the goal every year, not to have a 15-14 record with an average RPI. No matter how many good teams you play in the non-conference schedule, it's not going to hurt your RPI unless the entire rest of the league is doing the same ... and even then it doesn't help as much because everybody in our league isn't going to be winning those games.

RPI at this level is just about completely irrelevant. I wish everybody, including those in our local media, understood that. Just because that's what people talk about on ESPN as it relates to big-time teams doesn't mean it has a single thing to do with us.

Good assessment BM. At our level you either win the tournament to represent or you stay home. No doubt second place in the SLC translates only as the first place loser. If they expand the field eventually then we could be talking about two teams making it into March Madness - female style.

The only good thing about 2nd in the SLC is that, if the regular-season champ also wins the tournament, you get the league's auto bid to the WNIT I believe. Not as prestigious as the NCAA by any stretch of the imagination, but still a pretty nice accomplishment for a program like ours.

But again, even that doesn't have a damn thing to do with RPI.

If as fans we are happy being 188 out of 246 with a strength of schedule of 344 out of 346, then great. Hey, let's play an easy schedule and win the conference and make it to the tournament just so we can get demolished in the first round by an upper level team, say a 1 or 2 seed! Or.... we can get a tougher schedule during the year, get the experience playing good teams (because we all know that teams that play better competition get better themselves), win the conference, go to the tournament, not get that last place draw, and have a chance against an 8 or 10 seed. Tough scenario I know, but I think the SugarBears could do it. =D>

Well, I woud guess Coach Matt is not oblivious to that. Recall that we played OU and OSU (among some others) when we really were not ready. He backed off that type of OOC schedule to get the team pieces in place and give them some opportunity to put things together. We may still be a couple years away from fighting for SLC tourney crown but who does not think there has been huge progress?

The SBs have done a superb job this year and they are poised to be even better next year.

Now let's regroup and go after the Lumberjacks hard on Wed and come back home to whip up on the Cowboys on Sat.

Wait, you think that an SLC team is going to get a 7 or 9 seed?
In the last decade the highest any SLC team has gotten is 11.
SFA owned SLC women's basketball for a long time and had some high seeds in the early 90s, but it's been all downhill since then for the conference.
