UCA (10-4/20-7), 2nd in East
SFA (16-9/11-3), 1st in East

Last 3 games for SFA (5-2 at home in SLC play):
2/27: Win at TAMCC, 69-68
2/24: Win at home vs Texas State, 95-83
2/20: Win home vs SELA, 85-60

(Home SLC losses were 1/27 to NWS by 68-64 and 2/6 to Lamar by 92-86)

Last SFA game vs UCA: 1/13 at UCA, W by 97-86
JSFA: Jordan Ford 21 pts; Antoinette Davis 15 rebs
UCA: Megan Herbert DD 30/17

Well, this is for the East.....SBs need to win this one to have a shot.... and hope SFA loses at UTSA on 3/6 (10-4/18-9, 2nd in West, only home loss in SLC was last Sat to Lamar by 66-63). After the blowup at SELA that would seem a stretch from the SBs but the LumberJacks no doubt will not count on that happening twice. UCA now really has something to prove..especially to themselves.

Stats are pretty even with some slight edges.....both team score in 70s...UCA defense has been a little tighter. SFA has a slight advantage in shooting % but UCA has slight edge in shooting defense. UCA is the better FT shooting team and two (Herbert and Rice) who hit 80%+ which could be big in a tight game at end).

Rebounding is close but SFA gives up more rebs than UCA which could play into UCA strength. However, while TOs are close, SFA forces more which could hurt SBs who have a tendency to have high TOs to begin with.

Road conference games are typically won with better fundamentals...FTs, defense, rebounding and keeping TOs down. SBs need to keep Cormier in check and Herbert out of foul trouble. Keep the score in the 60s. This truly needs a total team effort to beat a good team on the road.

Go SugarBears!!

Looks like the SLC picked the wrong game for TV...the game they picked has a score of 75-62 with 2 min left.

My question last week was about there being no better game for TV tonight than UCA v SFA....guess the SBs and Jacks had quite a game. Very proud of our ladies for not being intimidated by the big bad leaders of the East on the road. Looking forward to the rematch next season. Just think how far the ladies came in one season...nearly beating division leader on the road.....hope they take this with them to FC on Sat and whip up on McNeese pretty good before 2500+. We re not "back" yet but we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and the only freight train is the SBs gaining speed.

I know you're on board and enthusiastic and all that ... but what do you mean we're not "back"? We're somewhere we've never been before.

Do we need to drop back down to NAIA and win 23 games instead of 20 or 21 in Division I to be "back"?

I would say the Sugar Bears are back and then some.

I think we may need to readjust our definition of "being back" a bit now that we have moved from D2 to Division 1. Think about this for a minute, with 7 days left in this season, or 3 games remaining, the Sugar Bears controlled their own destiny, win all 3, they would have won a title, SLC East at the very least, of some sort. This coming off the worst season in program's modern history. Now we all know by now that hasnt worked out the last 2 games, BUT you really can not ask for anything more than to be the holder of your own destiny, needing no help from anyone else, heading into the final week of the season. (Ok, after further thought I guess a little help was needed to win the overall SLC, but you get the point, we held the East in our hands)

So do we need another year in the vicinity of this year's record/results to be considered "back?" I dont know, but I now have no problem using it. Reason being, the SLC, while obviously not the most powerful woman's conference in D1 basketball, still has above and beyond more quality, and deeper teams and talent than the old NAIA, AIC, and Gulf South days from top to bottom throughout the course of a season, thats why its D1 competition. Its not impossible to dominate year in and year out in the SLC because SFA, Lamar, and UTA seem to have been consistently at the top since we have entered, with SFA being just pretty dog gone good since the true inception of woman's basketball overall. But other than that, there arent many programs in the SLC that have been at the top, or stayed at the top the last 4 years, or beyond consistently. Now UTSA has won back-to-back Tourney titles, so I guess you could throw them in, but we have a real chance to step in and join that elite/upper tier group at the top year in and year out, just like we have done this year. To me, that makes you back in this day and age with the all things considered. So I guess my point is, I'm agreeing with the previous 2 posters.

Now next year, if we go out and lay a season long egg, which I dont anticipate, then I reserve the right to change the mind!

as for the game last night, what a great effort by the girls. They rebounded from the awful SELA game and didnt take it to the court with them for the SFA game, they are growing up! That game was ours, and SFA just made 1 more play at the very bitter end, that's the way it goes sometimes.

They have the last game against McNeese St. on Saturday at 2 at the Farris Center where they are 14-1 this season. I'm hoping the crowd will show up and let them know what they think of this group and the effort and results they have put forth this season!
