NICHOLLS FIRST TEST IN PIVOTAL WEEK FOR SUGAR BEARS

Nicholls comes into the Farris Center tonight at 7:00 pm with a 5-11 (0-3) record. Hopefully this game will serve as a nice warm-up before the BIG rematch with Lamar on Saturday!

Nicholls has some weapons, luckily we do too. This could be a highly entertaining game at the FC tonight, so hopefully the crowd will come out and support the girls tonight.

That was an ass-thrashing of pretty epic proportions. Could've been a 50-point win or better if we hadn't emptied the bench and jacked around for part of the second half. You don't beat conference teams by 35 points very often ... that first half was something else. Fast breaks, layups, three-pointers from all over, lockdown D – basically every element of exciting basketball. It was a lot like watching 40 Minutes of Hell only with fewer dunks and more ponytails.

How about Micah Rice, huh? 5-6 from 3-point range and shooting almost 60 percent from out there over the last six games. Filled the outside shooting void and then some. When shooters stay that locked in for that long it's pretty fun to watch – unless you're on the other side.

3-1, just behind McNeese at 4-0. Got Lamar coming on Saturday - should be huge. They're 2-1 right now, had tonight off so they get a full week to prepare. If we can get that one we're 4-1 and they're sitting there 2-2, so that's good.

This is a helluva stretch coming up – Lamar with a week off, then to Southeastern where we lost 27 last year, and then undefeated McNeese comes to Conway after that. Hold serve at home and things are looking up - and you just have to do it against probably the two toughest teams in the league. Should be fun.

SUGAR BEARS CRUSH LADY COLONELS 91-56
1/19/2011 10:18:05 PM
CONWAY — Central Arkansas scored the first five points of Wednesday night's game against Nicholls, then proceeded to score a whole lot more as the Sugar Bears put together an exceptional first half and cruised to victory, crushing the Lady Colonels 91-56 at the Farris Center for their most lopsided conference win since joining the Southland in 2006.

"The first half was one of the best halves of basketball I've ever seen on any level by anybody," said UCA head coach Matt Daniel. "With nine minutes to go we're 14-of-17 from the field and end the half with 18 assists, and did a great job defensively. The second half was a different story, but it's hard to ask teenagers to stay focused that long when the game's out of hand."

The Sugar Bears (11-6, 3-1 Southland) built a 27-6 lead less than 10 minutes into the game and went up by 30 with 5:53 left in the half when Megan Herbert's layup put UCA ahead 40-10. The lead would climb to 34 as the Sugar Bears held a commanding 50-16 lead at the break...

Sugar Bears ride first half to easy victory
Posted: January 19, 2011 - 10:46pm
By David McCollum

The University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears instantly turned into a not-so-sweet wrecking crew Wednesday night and pounded Nicholls into rubble within minutes of a 91-56 victory at the Farris Center.

It pretty much was over about as soon as it began.

The Sugar Bears (11-6, 3-1) stunned the Colonels from the beginning with three straight 3-pointers from Micah Rice and Destinee Rogers, then went inside to Megan Herbert and Courtney Duever and had Colonels (5-12, 0-4) down 16 in fewer than eight minutes.

The Sugar Bears, who could do very little wrong the first half, led by 30 (38-8) with 6:56 left in the first half.

The only stat you really need to know from the first half: With 4:24 remaining, the Sugar Bears were shooting 80 percent (6 of 12 from 3-point range from four players) while the Colonels were at 16 percent...
