That's women's basketball for you. Can shoot 37% from the line and have over 20 turnovers but still win!

Megan has over 700 rebounds and she's only in her second year of playing! That's amazing! In 55 games at that. =D>

What is the career record for rebounds by a Sugar Bear? Miss Herbert
has to be getting close. Some kids just have a knack for rebounding. She
always seems to be in the right place at the right time. I don't think it is
something that is coached. I think she sees things on the floor that other
players do not see and has a better understanding of the game than most.

I for one am sure glad she chose to be a SUGARBEAR.

Way to go Sugar Bears! Congrats on making the SLC Tournament. Last night was a great night to be a Sugar Bear. Now we can definitely use the last three games as a springboard to set us up for a possible pretty good seed in Katy! I can not wait to see them in action Saturday afternoon. I challenge everyone else on this board to show up and show them love and support Saturday! YES!!!

HERBERT GOES FOR 25-20 AS SUGAR BEARS CLINCH FIRST DIVISION I POSTSEASON BERTH
2/23/2011 10:26:31 PM

THIBODAUX, La. — After four years with no hope of postseason play during the school's NCAA Division I reclassification period, Central Arkansas put an end to its long wait on Wednesday night, securing a berth in the Southland Conference tournament in its first year eligible by defeating Nicholls 68-53 in Stopher Gym.

"It's an unbelievably great honor," said UCA head coach Matt Daniel. "This team just accomplished something that can never be erased. To be able to do that in our first year eligible is quite an accomplishment, particularly for such a young team. We've qualified for the tournament, but everybody wants more. The community wants more, the team wants more, I want more. Now we've got to go get more."

The Sugar Bears (16-10, 8-5 Southland) jumped ahead early and held on to the lead for the final 36 minutes, building it to as many as 18 – including 15 in the first half as UCA recorded its third straight win over the Colonels (8-18, 3-10)...

Megan Herbert scored the first eight for the Sugar Bears and led all players with 25 points and 20 rebounds, tying her career high and becoming the first Southland player this season to record 20 rebounds in a game. She had seven offensive rebounds, compared to just six for the Colonels, who finished with 25 total. It was the second time in her career to reach 20 points and rebounds...

Some pretty good players on those lists...Conder, Seals, Harris, Randle, Dobbins just to name a few....

Might be tough to get total points record but FTs and rebounds on course to surpass....

"I for one am sure glad she chose to be a SUGARBEAR." ...and the SugarBear fans all said Amen....

"I challenge everyone else on this board to show up and show them love and support Saturday! "....E-Rod will need to make up for me....will have to be there in spirit only...

Nice article on SBs vs Lady Colonels in T-doux paper at...

http://www.dailycomet.com/article/20110224/ARTICLES/110229745/1032?Title=Rally-comes-up-short-for-Nicholls-women&tc=ar

THIBODAUX — The Nicholls State women's basketball did everything they needed to do Wednesday night to pull out a win over Southland Conference foe Central Arkansas.

Everything, that is, except make shots.

Despite forcing 21 turnovers and dwindling a 17-point second half deficit down to seven, the Colonels were halted by a 21-53 (39.6 percent) shooting night from the field and a 6-for-16 (37.5 percent) performance from the free throw line in a 68-53 loss. With the loss the Colonels dropped to 8-18 overall and 3-10 in Southland Conference play.

Nicholls coach DoBee Plaisance admitted she was pleased with her team's fight, but not the execution on the offensive side.

"We defended well for 40 minutes," she said. "(Central Arkansas) is averaging 71 points and we held them to under their average. When we came in at halftime I said ‘major adjustment: hit shots.' We had enough chances to win the ball game. We're doing the right thing on the defensive side the ball. We just didn't hit shots."

With their win, the Sugar Bears (16-10, 8-5 SLC) secured their first-ever berth in the Southland Conference Tournament in the first year the school was eligible since joining the league five years ago.

"We did something that will never be erased, to qualify the first year we are eligible," Central Arkansas coach Matt Daniel said. "We're not playing great basketball right now, we can play much better, but I'm pleased with the outcome. It's a tough place to come play and we were able to come out on top."

After trailing 31-17 after 20 minutes of play it appeared as though Central Arkansas would close the game out in the second half.

Jumpers by Megan Herbert (25 points) and Desiree Rogers put the Sugar Bears in control, 35-17, to open the half.

However, the Colonels refused to fold and with the help of 12 second half turnovers and 14 second half points from freshman LiAnn McCarthy, Nicholls found themselves within striking distance at 43-36 with 13:16 to play.

Runs of 6-0 and 5-0 allowed the Colonels to close the gap as both teams continued to trade baskets before four points from Rogers lead a 6-0 Central Arkansas run to put them ahead 53-40 with 8:21 to play.

From that point on the Colonels would not get any closer than 10 points, on a Ricshanda Bickham jumper at the 6:45 mark to make the score 53-43.

Central Arkansas out-scored Nicholls 15-13 the rest of the way with the help of Herbert's game-high 25 points to close out the game.

The Colonels were led by McCarthy's 18 points on the night and 16 points from KK Babin, who went 3-for-7 from behind the 3-point line.

Nakeia Guiden (11 points) and Rogers (10 points) also added double figures for the Sugar Bears.

Nicholls opened the game leading twice, 2-0 and 5-4 after Babin's first 3-pointer of the game, but Herbert scored the first eight points of the night for Central Arkansas to giver her team an 8-5 lead with 15:50 to play.

The Sugar Bears did not trail the rest of the night, out-scoring the Colonels 23-12 the rest of the first half.

Even with the loss the Colonels are not mathematically eliminated from tournament play. Plaisance said her team will continue to fight the remainder of the season as long as there is an outside chance of getting in.

"We have games left and scenarios left so we are not out of Katy," she said. "The gap is closing but we still have some games left. Until somebody tells me that I'm not going, my bags are packed."
