SUGAR BEARS CRUISE TO 79-61 WIN OVER LADY LIONS
2/26/2011 5:43:40 PM
CONWAY — After putting up 25 points and 20 rebounds at Nicholls on Wednesday, Central Arkansas sophomore forward Megan Herbert was held in check on Saturday as Southeastern Louisiana limited the Southland Conference's leading scorer and rebounder well below her season averages with just 11 points and three rebounds.
It proved to be no problem for the Sugar Bears, however, as junior guard Nakeia Guiden responded by going perfect from both the field (6 for 6) and free throw line (9 for 9) en route to a season-high 21 points to lead UCA to a 79-61 win in front of 1,831 on WBCA Pink Zone day at the Farris Center.
"I'm never satisfied, but I'm happy with the effort we gave today," said UCA head coach Matt Daniel. "I knew if we'd be disciplined and bring energy that we'd have a chance to win the game and that's what we did. That's why we shot a good percentage from the field, got the stops we needed to get and shot free throws the way we did. You can tell when you're that focused that all those things carry over and we were able to do that today."...
They keyed on Megan some, but heck, we were able to get any literal shot we wanted, thats how porous SLU's defense was. We were in attack mode from the opening tip. I'm almost certain Megan could have 'gotten her numbers' had she wanted to or had we needed her too, but it wasnt necessary at all Saturday. The girls have won 2 in a row, and are playing better, but a pair of challenges await this week against a pair of teams UCA has never beaten in 4 tries apiece (UTSA & TAMCC). Wins are important, but what I really want to see is continued improvements taking care of the basketball, playing good defense, and being patient with ball movement on offense.
