Pregame will begin on UCAsports.com at 6:45 tonight (internet only)

Important game in terms of keeping momentum going (won 2 in a row) heading into the SLCTourney next week. It's also possible we could always be matched up with UTSA next Tuesday as well, plus, we've never beaten them in 4 tries, so might as well beat em in the last home game of the year. UTSA leads the SLC West by a game over Sam Houston St., they've won 3 in a row and 5 of their last 6, so they are rolling at the right time as well.

SUGAR BEARS HOST WEST LEADER UTSA IN HOME FINALE
3/1/2011 6:48:58 PM

CONWAY — With only two games remaining in the regular season and the Southland Conference women's basketball tournament on the horizon next week, there are still numerous seeding possibilities at play for Central Arkansas as the Sugar Bears enter the final week before their first-ever postseason appearance in NCAA Division I.

Currently sitting in a fourth-place tie in the league standings, in order to move up the Sugar Bears need a win on Wednesday night in the final home game of the season – which may also be one of the toughest.

In their last appearance of the season in the Farris Center, the Sugar Bears (17-10, 9-5 Southland) take on the UTSA Roadrunners (14-13, 10-4) – the West Division leaders and a team UCA has never beaten – at 7 p.m...

What a great night at the FC last night. The crowd's energy was phenominal, and finally beating UTSA and the most animated player in the SLC (Davis), was icing on the cake.

SUGAR BEARS ROUT WEST-LEADING ROADRUNNERS IN HOME FINALE
3/2/2011 10:12:30 PM

CONWAY — Central Arkansas may not have saved its absolute best for last, but it was pretty close.

In their final home game of the season, the Sugar Bears shot nearly 60 percent and outscored UTSA 53-28 in the second half as they pulled away for an 81-59 win over the Southland Conference West Division-leading Roadrunners on Senior Night in the Farris Center.

"That's a great win," said UCA head coach Matt Daniel. "I don't know what's going to happen the rest of the season, but that's a great win right there and a great way to close out the regular season at home and send our seniors off in good fashion. It appears we're starting to play better, and if we are we're doing it at the right time."

In picking up their third straight win and first ever over the Roadrunners, the Sugar Bears (19-10, 10-5 Southland) got 28 points and 10 rebounds from sophomore forward Megan Herbert – including 21 second-half points. During one span of 4:02 late in the half, Herbert scored 13 straight points for the Sugar Bears as they extended their lead to 21 with under five minutes remaining to put the Roadrunners (14-14, 10-5) away...

Sugar Bears’ spurt too much for Roadrunners
Posted: March 2, 2011 - 10:56pm
By David McCollum

With things at a stalemate Wednesday night, the University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears broke away from the UTSA Roadrunners with a variety-pack run.

A little bit of everything from everyone led to the 81-59 victory at the Farris Center.

It was the first victory in five tries for the Sugar Bears against UTSA, which currently leads the Southland Conference West. The victory gave the Sugar Bears an inside track toward the No. 3 seed for next week’s SLC tourney.

With the score tied at 36 in the last home appearance of the season for the UCA women, the Sugar Bears (18-10, 10-5) produced a 23-6 run in which they got every key rebound, picked apart the UCA defense and hit shots inside and outside.

It began with seven straight points by Nakeia Guiden, who popped a 3-pointer on the Sugar Bears’ fourth shot on the possession. Micah Rice drove through the defense, then Destinee Rogers and Brittney Gowans combined for three straight 3-point shots and Megan Herbert added an “an one” three-point play to suddenly push the margin to 59-42 with 8:22 left...
