SUGAR BEARS BRINGING INDIANA, ALABAMA TO CONWAY TO OPEN '11-'12 SEASONQuote:
CONWAY — After finishing the 2010-11 season with a record crowd against UAB in the first round of the Women's Basketball Invitational, Central Arkansas is looking to ride that momentum into the '11-'12 season as the Sugar Bears open with the two highest-profile teams to ever come into the Farris Center.
The Sugar Bears, who won 21 games for the second consecutive season and appeared in the Southland Conference tournament championship game in their first year eligible, will test themselves early as they begin the season at home with a pair of marquee games against Indiana and Alabama on Nov. 11 and 15 – marking the first time UCA will have hosted a Big Ten or SEC basketball team.
"This is a big-time non-conference schedule," said UCA head coach Matt Daniel, who will enter his fourth season at the school. "The opportunity to have these name programs on our campus should speak volumes to how much we've grown in a very short time. It's a great opportunity for us to showcase to our community and state that we are here and women's basketball is important. Our crowds have grown exponentially over the last couple years, but with a schedule like this we hope and anticipate the crowd of 3,000 we had in postseason play last year becomes a mainstay for the Farris Center and an environment that is hostile for opposing teams."
Our OOC schedule will feature only 1 TRUE road game (@ TX Tech) the rest are at home or neutral sites!
