After a near miss against Ga Tech and a win vs High Point, the Sugar Bears, who moved up a spot to 20th in this week's Women's Mid-Major Poll, return home to take on UAPB on Friday night at 7 at the Farris Center. Pregame at 6:40 on The Bear 91.3 and UCAsports.com.

The girls are 6-0 at home, so winning these last 2 home non-conference games would be a nice way to wrap up the 13 game non-conference slate.

That is #9 (and defending national champs) Texas A&M. The score is 24-26 A&M at the half!

UAPB 19-19=38 (0-11)
UCA 28-33=61 (9-3)

Rice.....15/1
Herbert...10/7
Duever...15/7....includes 3/5 FGS, 1/1 3s and 8/8 FTs

FGs:39%
3s:29%
FTs:68%
Rebs: 11/27=38
TOs: 17

Held Lady Lions to 21% FGs and 0 for 3s....forced 20 TOs...but UAPB tallied 13 steals....

UCA now leads series 22-12...

Coach: Bench saved us tonight...most physcial game we have played this season...we got frustrated.....did hold them to 21% overall and 18% in 2nd half....they are 0-11 due to their schedule .....UCA owes Phiiander Smih who is 0-1 in FC this season....

Next is 1/2/12 at 7pm vs Philander Smith at the FC...

Other SLC scores...

Nicholls 72 Southern 52
Sam Houston 48 Mizzou 66
McNeese 62 Texas A&M 72 Wow!
Lamar 73 Centenary 44
Northwestern State 73 Jackson State 79 (JSU came from 13 back at half)
Rice 71 UTSA 46
SFA 66 SMU 60

Looks like a tough road thru the SLC to the big dance....

FINALLY, thanks to Steve O for bringing the SB games during 2011 to those of us who cannot get to FC very often....

The bench saved us tonight," said UCA head coach Matt Daniel. "Every one of them on our bench made a difference. The group we subbed in had good energy and was able to extend the lead out and that's what saved us. That was the most physical team we've played all year, and I think we got a little frustrated. I thought the game was called a little loose, and cooler heads didn't prevail – except on the scoreboard."

Anyone at the game? Just wondering what happened with the cooler heads
statement?

I went and saw this:

1. No rebounding. Yeah we got more than UAPB but UAPB should have been outrebounded by 20+ easily.

2. Refs let this game get away with hacking, smacking, and big body smacking. One one call UAPB inbounded the ball and our player tipped it out of bounds and the refs gave it to us..right in front of the uapb bench! Looks like they wanted to get out of there as fast as they could so they didn't call anything.

3. On defense our SBs played hands down. Yeah, hands down. On one three pointer with no time left on the clock one of our players put her hands across her chest so as not to foul the 3 point shooter. Blew my mind.

I'll give UAPB credit, they took what the refs gave them. Matt looked ticked all game long but I couldn't tell if it was fake anger because we were easily beating this team or real anger because things weren't going well. Fans in the stands were quiet all game long because you could see the lack of effort on our part. I sat next to the usual vocal ones and they were having fun imitating the announcer. Horrible game all around with very little effort by our girls (i.e. one play where our girl got knocked down and no call so she sat there and watched UAPB take the ball up court.)

I hope the next game looks better than that effort! Go SBs!

Sounds like a typical game with the Golden Lions. We need to quit scheduling
them in all sports. Nothing good ever comes from games with them.
