SBs went 24-10 during calendar year 2011 with two "BCS" wins, a near miss vs UAB who won the post season tourney and a run to the final game in teh SLC. Not bad.

Now down to work starting with Lamar.

Cards are 8-6 vs SBs at 10-3.

A few things before we head down to Beaumont tomorrow morning:

*The Sugar Bears are 0-3 all time in Beaumont, and 0-3 all-time at SFA, breaking both of those would be nice.

*The 10-3 Sugar Bears are up to #18 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. McNeese is #16, SFA received 38 points, and Lamar received 8 points.

*By the NCAA website, we now have a RPI of 75, up from 93 last time out. McNeese has one of 82.

*We now have an RPI of 82 on this site (http://www.realtimerpi.com/rpi_434_Women.html), which is tops in the SLC. (McNeese 86)

Airtime at 12:40 pm on The Bear 91.3 and UCAsports.com Saturday afternoon.

SUGAR BEARS' ROAD BACK TO CONFERENCE TOURNEY BEGINS SATURDAY AT LAMAR
1/6/2012 10:30:00 AM

BEAUMONT, Texas — The last time the Central Arkansas women's basketball team walked off the floor following a game against a Southland Conference opponent, it was after a 21-point whipping at the hands of McNeese State in the conference tournament championship game in Katy, Texas.

The image of the Cowgirls' title remains vivid to the Sugar Bears. The celebration that wasn't theirs – they see it nearly every day. They have little choice, because it hangs in each of their lockers, enlarged and framed.

Now, after a wait of nearly 10 months, the Sugar Bears begin their quest for the title that eluded them as they tip off the Southland Conference portion of their schedule at Lamar on Saturday at 1 p.m.

But before they can think of celebrating in Katy, the Sugar Bears must first get there...

Defense and fewer turnovers = big road win.

What a performance by the Sugar Bears today. A total team win as CMD said afterward. The defense was everywhere, active and alert, and this group battled through some offensive struggles early. Plus we owned the glass all night long! It was a big confidence win for sure! (And several of the girls had their pics taken with Hall of Fame Coach Bobby Knight after the game too!)
Now to get ready for those SFA Lady Jacks, the best team in the West so far this season. We've never won in their home either, so why not now?!!!

SUGAR BEARS SHUT DOWN LAMAR IN SOUTHLAND OPENER
1/7/2012 4:11:00 PM

BEAUMONT, Texas – Central Arkansas turned in a suffocating defensive effort and scored a convincing road victory to open Southland Conference play on Saturday, defeating Lamar 62-37 at the Montagne Center for the Sugar Bears’ first-ever win in Beaumont.

“What a great team effort,” said UCA head coach Matt Daniel. “We had great on-ball pressure from all kinds of people all over the floor. Our mentality was right, and even when we were struggling offensively we were able to get stops defensively. Holding them to 37 points is pretty good defense. It’s a really, really big road win and gives us a huge lift. But now we’ve got to focus on Stephen F. Austin.”

The Sugar Bears (11-3, 1-0) held the Lady Cardinals (8-7, 0-1) to 26 percent shooting for the game, and made 26 field goals to Lamar’s 13 while shooting 45.6 percent. The 37 points ties Lamar’s lowest output ever in a Southland Conference game and marks the third straight game the Sugar Bears have held their opponent to fewer than 40 points. It is also the eighth time this season UCA has kept its opponent under 50, the most in a season in program history...

The girls appreciated Coach Knight taking the time to have their picture taken with him. And he didn't throw any chairs!
