Well the Sugar Bears who enter Saturday 11-4, 1-1, finally get to play at home again. They take on a reeling, but dangerous Northwestern State Lady Demon team who is 0-2 in SLC play and lost at home to Nicholls Wednesday night for only the 2nd time ever. Tip off at the Farris Center is set for 2 pm, and it's an internet only broadcast on UCAsports.com with pregame beginning at 1:40.

With the students back, a big football recruiting weekend, and the fact we are undefeated at home this season, I'm hoping the fans will turn out for this group! We owe NW State, they beat us at home last season, too!

SUGAR BEARS SEEKING REVENGE VS. LADY DEMONS IN SOUTHLAND HOME OPENER
1/13/2012 5:36:00 PM

CONWAY — Revenge will be on the minds of the Sugar Bears when they play their first home game of the 2012 Southland Conference season on Saturday, taking on the Lady Demons of Northwestern State at 2 p.m.

Last season, the Lady Demons came into the Farris Center and upset the Sugar Bears 76-72 in overtime – a result UCA hopes to avoid this time around as the Sugar Bears try to extend their perfect home record this season.

"Every game is important, but you absolutely have to protect your home floor," said UCA head coach Matt Daniel. "You always want to win every game at home and then go steal a few on the road. So while we want to win this one and stay undefeated on this floor, they are coming in here looking to steal one – as they did last year – and we know it's going to be a battle, and we better be prepared."...

Great balance with six ladies scoring in double figures. Hope some of the FB recruits got to see how UCA plays ball.

SUGAR BEARS BOUNCE BACK WITH 41-POINT ROUT OF NORTHWESTERN ST.
1/14/2012 6:11:00 PM

CONWAY — Last season when Central Arkansas and Northwestern State met in the Farris Center, the Lady Demons escaped with a 76-72 overtime victory – an outcome the Sugar Bears had no desire to see repeated on Saturday.

It didn't take long for them to ensure a different result on Saturday as UCA built a big lead early and kept building until they had constructed their widest margin of victory ever in a Southland game, defeating the Lady Demons 84-43 in the Sugar Bears' home opener in league play.

After shooting a season-worst 24.6 percent in Wednesday's loss at Stephen F. Austin, the Sugar Bears (12-4, 2-1 Southland) answered back with one of their best shooting outings of the season as they connected on 47.5 percent of their shots (29-of-61) and tied their season high by hitting 11 3-pointers in 25 attempts – 44 percent, their third best effort of the year.

The Lady Demons (4-12, 0-3) took a 2-0 lead to start the game, but were never again within striking distance. They trailed 23-14 with 7:18 left in the first half, but the Sugar Bears closed with a 17-7 run to lead 40-21 at the half...

BTW I was impressed with the turnout today. I still want more!...but on an extended holiday weekend, over 1200 in the stands was a good start for the SLC run at home!

Sugar Bears knocked out NSU with 3-pointers, defense

By David McCollum

While there was a gun show across town, the University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears found the range Saturday afternoon.

Six Sugar Bears (12-4, 2-1) made 3-pointers as they coasted to an 84-43 victory over Northwestern State at the Farris Center.

Meanwhile, a struggling, injury-plagued Northwestern State team (4-12, 0-3) was almost completely muzzled.

It was the biggest margin of victory ever for UCA in Southland Conference play...

Looking at the play-by-play, why was our best player and possibly the conference's best player in at the end of a 40 point blowout? Especially, considering the girls had plenty of subs?

Had to make sure she got her double-double. She didn't get her 10th rebound until like the last minute of the game.
