Well the 13-4, 3-1 Sugar Bears finally come home for 3 straight games starting Saturday afternoon when Lamar visits in the first game of the doubleheader. Tipoff is at 2 pm and both games will be heard live on The Bear 91.3 and UCAsports.com beginning at 1:40 pm.

UCA is coming off the long trip and big comeback win over Nicholls, Lamar enters the Farris Center 9-8 overall, and 1-2 in SLC play with a full week off and a win at UTA in their last game a week ago Saturday.

The Sugar Bears have won 2 in a row in the series after the dominating defensive effort holding Lamar to a school SLC game record low 37 points a couple of weeks back in the 62-37 win at Beaumont.

Hope to see you guys there tomorrow afternoon! I know a great crowd would be nice to see after the 1st 3 of 4 SLC games have been on the road. Plus I'm sure the men wouldnt mind having a big crowd on hand either now that they've won 2 in a row as well!

SUGAR BEARS OPEN MUCH-NEEDED HOME STAND WITH LEAGUE POWER LAMAR
1/20/2012 4:27:00 PM

CONWAY — After playing three of their first four conference games away from home, Central Arkansas will get a break from the road as the Sugar Bears play their next three games inside the Farris Center.

But they won't be getting much of a break on the court.

A swing that also includes defending league champion and current standings leader McNeese State along with divisional foe Southeastern Louisiana, the Sugar Bears must first face a stiff test Saturday at 2 p.m. in the form of the Lamar Lady Cardinals – the league's winningest program over the last three years.

"It'll be nice to be at home and we need to be at home," said UCA head coach Matt Daniel, whose team will be trying to move to 10-0 at home this season. The Sugar Bears have won 35 of their last 41 inside the Farris Center, an .854 winning percentage. "We need the environment of home to help bring us energy, because we're tired. You can see it in our kids. We'll need a really good environment in here to jump start us and get us going, and hopefully we'll have enough legs to be fine. The environment has been incredible at times this season, and we certainly need another one Saturday afternoon at 2."

Since the start of the 2009-10 season, Lamar has posted a league-best 60 wins, with 20 or more wins in each of the last two years. The Sugar Bears are second with 55...

At the game...Lamar had ONE scorer in that one...#5. Without her, this game would have been a BLOWOUT!

I thought the girls battled, obviously. But they were pressing to me a bit in the first half fighting that fatigue. But they hung in there, and got down 8 in the 2nd half before the 2nd wind kicked in! Once we quit turning the ball over, we started dominating on the boards, and the shots started falling it was only a matter of time before we ran passed them. Our defense played well for the most part and our bench came up big again. All in all a very good win today, over 1340 there to see it was a nice way to come home for 3 straight!

SUGAR BEARS BOUNCE BACK IN SECOND HALF, COMPLETE SWEEP OF LAMAR
1/21/2012 5:06:00 PM

CONWAY — For the second straight game, Central Arkansas bounced back from a sluggish first half with a much stronger second half to pull away for a win, this time defeating Lamar 63-53 in the Farris Center on Saturday.

Three days after coming back from 17 down at Nicholls, the Sugar Bears (14-4, 4-1 Southland) spotted Lamar (9-9, 1-3) an eight-point lead early in the second half before going on a 10-1 run to regain the lead. They followed it up with a 12-2 run midway through the half to pull away as they outscored the Lady Cardinals 40-28 over the final 20 minutes to complete their first-ever sweep in the series and remain perfect (10-0) at home this season.

"We knew Lamar would be hungry after the outcome down there," UCA head coach Matt Daniel said, referencing the Sugar Bears' 62-37 win in Beaumont in the conference opener. "With it being such a quick turnaround from the first game, we knew it would be fresh on their minds. They threw their best punch, but we were able to take it and give one right back."...

Sugar Bears surge in second half for 63-53 victory

By David McCollum

The University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears didn’t necessarily find a higher gear in the second half Saturday; they just operated on more efficient fuel.

Tied at 43 in a real scrap with Lamar at the Farris Center, the UCA women used a 12-2 run to surge to a 63-53 victory.

UCA, which upped its record to 14-4, 4-1, trailed 25-23 after an erratic first half. The Lamar women, traditionally a top contender in the Southland Conference, continued a tumble in the East Division standings, falling to 1-3, 9-9 overall. The victory gave UCA a sweep of the season series...
