In an delightful showdown featuring intertwining power maneuvers, long-range gunning, two hard-firing sister acts and two overtimes, the University moved into a deadlock with McNeese State in the Southland Conference race on two desperation shots Saturday afternoon.

Ironically, they both went in.

The Sugar Bears made six fewer 3-point goals than McNeese State but three gave them the winning edge in a 71-70, two-overtime victory over McNeese State that left almost everyone at the Farris Center standing with crossed fingers.

“That’s as good of college basketball game as you’ll ever see, men or women,” said UCA coach Matt Daniel after the Sugar Bears (16-4) pulled even with the Cowgirls (6-5) in the Southland Conference race with 6-1 marks...
