Best individual weekend performance, off the radar: Megan Herbert, Central Arkansas. This isn't the first mention of the Central Arkansas junior, nor is it likely to be the last with performances like the one she turned in against McNeese State in a battle for first place in the Southland Conference on Saturday. Herbert played all 50 minutes in her team's double-overtime win and finished with 32 points and 15 rebounds. She's averaging 16.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game for a team that is 16-4 overall and moved into a tie with McNeese State at 6-1 in the conference with the win. Oh yes, and the reigning Southland player of the year , the one with a career average of 11.7 rebounds per game, is still just 5 feet, 11 inches...

BIG WEEK NETS HERBERT 10TH CAREER SOUTHLAND PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD
1/30/2012 1:36:00 PM

CONWAY — After averaging 29 points and 12 rebounds in the Sugar Bears' wins over McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana, Central Arkansas junior forward Megan Herbert has been named this week's Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

It is Herbert's third time to receive the award this season, and 10th of her career.

She was also recognized by ESPN women's basketball writer Graham Hays, who dubbed her performance in the McNeese State game the best "off the radar" individual performance of the weekend.

In the double-overtime win over the Cowgirls, who were previously undefeated in league play, Herbert played all 50 minutes and had a season-high 32 points to go with 15 rebounds for her 56th career double-double. She shot 55 percent from the field and made 10 of 11 (91 percent) from the free throw line – including two with 6.8 seconds left in the second overtime that proved to be the decisive points.

It was the second-highest point total by any Southland player this season, the ninth 30-point game of her career and 23rd game of at least 15 rebounds.

During the first half of the McNeese game, she topped the 1,500-point mark for her career – becoming just the eighth player in UCA history to do so. She now ranks seventh in school history in scoring with 1,525...

FOLLOWING WINS AND MILESTONES, HERBERT GETS THIRD STRAIGHT WEEKLY AWARD
2/13/2012 5:56:00 PM

As the wins continue to pile up for the Sugar Bears, so do the awards for Megan Herbert.

For the third straight week, the junior forward was voted the Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week following a pair of Sugar Bear wins, bringing the UCA streak to nine and giving the Sugar Bears their third consecutive 20-win season. She was also named the College Sports Madness National Mid-Major Player of the Week.

It is Herbert's 12th time to be awarded the Southland honor, and fifth time this season. She received the award four times as a freshman and three times last season.

In wins over Texas State and McNeese State last week, Herbert averaged 21.5 points and 13 rebounds as UCA extended its lead in both the East Division and overall conference standings to two games with five remaining in the regular season...
