Brooks Donald Williams was not very subtle when talking about getting people into the building for Saturday’s home game against Central Arkansas, which McNeese State will need to win in order to tie the Sugar Bears for first place in the Southland Conference basketball standings.

The Cowgirls coach mentioned that this will be her team’s “last Saturday home game” no fewer than eight times during her Wednesday news conference, bringing to mind the 2007 news conference when Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith continually repeated the phrase “Rex is our quarterback” in reference to questions about Rex Grossman.

Of course, trying to get fans to pack the 8,500-seat Burton Coliseum to watch the Cowgirls is hardly a controversial notion compared to entrusting one’s offense to Grossman.

“People really have to know this is their last chance to see them on a Saturday,” Donald Williams said. “I really believe we can pack Burton with all my heart, but it’s going to take a big group effort.”...
