Central Arkansas women's basketball head coach Matt Daniel recently spoke at a reception for his father David in Jonesboro, where the elder Daniel has long been a highly-respected coach and administrator.

On David Daniel Day, Matt made a surprise appearance and spoke about the great impact his father has had not only on the lives of he and his brother, but on numerous kids in Jonesboro through the years.

With the importance of fatherhood playing prominently in his head, Matt's thoughts turned to being on the other side of that equation – transitioning from simply having a strong, positive father figure to also soon becoming one.

Matt is very ambitious, he wants to achieve great things in his profession. I am crazy about his family. He coached my two sons and his younger brother works for me. I am so happy that he has a baby on the way. Hopefully, he will realize that the greatest achievement of all is being a great husband, a great father, and finding time secondarily to be a great coach as well. This is the best thing that could have ever happened to us at UCA. Matt is smart enough to know how lucky he is to be at a place like UCA where he is appreciated and to live and raise a family in a town like Conway. He deserves a chance to achieve all of his professional goals and I believe in him big time. It is nice that he has some new challenges to help him focus on things that really matter, like his dad, David!

Congrats to Matt and his wife...He is a superb coach, we are fortunate
to have him at UCA.
