Speaking of attendance JRK, I don't know if anyone noticed the article below Megan's about the Lady Backs success not producing high attendance #'s. Anyway, the lady hogs are "selling more tickets" than our girls, but when it comes to actual butts in the seats, we are right there with them, maybe a tad more! Great win ladies! Go Sugar Bears!

The only reason the Bearkats came back was #10 on their team got some easy baskets around our girls but mostly they started the full court press which drained our clock even though we usually got around it. After our clock nearly ran out, we missed the shots or settled for free throws. =D>

I'll give Sammie credit, they NEVER gave up...but it was just too little, too late.

The SBs just took another huge leap forward to a conference championship today. If they stay focused, it will happen. Great crowd. The Sugar Bears lead the league in attendance and in the standings. Not a bad combo!

CONWAY — As an avid card player, one of Central Arkansas head women's basketball coach Matt Daniel's favorite numbers is 21 – blackjack.

On Saturday, the cards came up the Sugar Bears' way once again as they defeated Sam Houston State 61-56 in front of 2,132 at the Farris Center to hit the 21-win mark for the third consecutive season – becoming the first Southland Conference team to do so since 2002.

"What a phenomenal accomplishment against a really good team," said Daniel, whose team is 21-4 this season after going 21-8 and 21-12 in the previous two seasons. "It's a special thing to be a part of, and I hope we can sustain this run. I thought we did a good job of adjusting and going with the flow of the game and our team was resilient again. We protected the home court and put ourselves in position to stay in the lead in the Southland Conference."

It was the 10th straight win for the Sugar Bears, who keep their stranglehold on first place in the Southland with an 11-1 league mark and stay undefeated in 14 home games this season. The Bearkats, who led the Southland's West Division coming into Saturday's game, fall to 8-4 in the league and 13-10 overall...

There were several magical nunbers Saturday afternoon for the University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears.

21. 14. 10, 61.

The UCA women upped their record to 21-4, winning their 10th straight game and going 14-0 at the Farris Center with a 61-55 victory over Southland Conference West Division leader Sam Houston State.

The 61?

The Sugar Bears’ Megan Herbert, with 20 points and 14 rebounds, surged to the 61st double-double of her career, setting a school record and passing UConn legend Rebecca Lobo on the national list.

“She passing some pretty big names,” said Sugar Bear coach Matt Daniel.

I came to the Sugar Bear game with my Bear Brother (Paul Cantrell)...we had
a great time watching the girls beat Sam. I thought Coach Daniel looked smooth
in his purple jacket with matching purple pumps. It's great to get #21 out of
the way...hope they can get to 27-28 wins this year.

An interesting fact: Sugar Bears are 63-24 over the past 3 years.
