#1 seed UCA opens play at 6pm on Tuesday vs #8 Nicholls State at Katy, Texas..

Conference championships are the primary goal and winning the tourney is the ticket to the next level. This what the SBs have been working for and now taking care of bsuiness will be the job ...rest assured the other teams will be hungry so each game has to be max effort.

Go SugarBears!!!!

JRK, you just answered my question. I was wondering why there was a tournament when there was already a conference champion.

In the fwiw dept. - three of the ladies from the Alumni Assn. office got together Sunday morning to put some "goodie" bags together for the girls and staff to munch on during their trip to Katy. They did the same thing for the football team when they went to Montana.

Oh yeah, they were the only three people to show up to see the girls load up and leave.

The sourest of times past have turned into some of the sweetest time for University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bear basketball.

The UCA women go into Tuesday’s first round of the Southland Conference women’s tournament with a 24-5 record and the No. 1 seed. The Sugar Bears, who have played in NAIA and NCAA Division II championship tournaments in their history, could be on the verge of qualifying for their first NCAA Division I Women’s Tournament.

And it’s not just because of post Megan Herbert, a great competitor with superb instincts for being in the right place at the right time, who has just earned her second straight Player of the Year honor, along with defensive Player of the Year, in the Southland Conference...

If SELA pulls this one out, I think they are the "underdog" team to beat. Talk about coming together at the right time.

HALFTIME

#2 McNeese 32
#7 SELA 27

McNeese was down 12-2 early on, but battled back and really took control the last few minutes of the half.

I know it technically hold as much water as a paper bag, but Charlie Creme's latest Bracketology has our girls bumped up to a 14 playing Miami in Tallahassee. At least someone it taking notice and these guys are usually close. Let's prove him right! Go Sugar Bears!

Could we get into the NCAA tourney without winning the SLC tournament?

I guess there is always the outside chance, but the SLC seems to be a 1-bid league.
Our RPI according the NCAA is 78, so it would pretty much take an act of Congress for us to get an at-large bid. In order for us to ever be considered for an at-large bid we will probably have to play an all DI schedule and keep winning. However, if we were to lose in the SLC Tournament, I imagine that we have a pretty good shot of getting into the WNIT (as opposed to the WBI like last season).
