Tip at 5:30pm

UCA (11-4/4-0) at Sam Houston State (7-9/3-1)

The 7-9 record includes respectable road losses at Nebraska, South Alabama and TCU and road whippings at UTEP and Delaware. The best OOC wins are over Houston Baptist ( we always seem to have problems with them) and Grambling, The SLC record has wins over TAMCC, NWS and McNeese and a close loss to Lamar. The Kats have played well recently and they will be ready for the SBs.

SLC Stats

UCA has a 13+ point margin while Sam is at 7 but both score in the 60s and give up in the 50s. Looks pretty even.

Kats outshoot SBs at FT Line by 72-63%. Might be a difference maker.

SBs have FG% of 48% v opponents 39% while SHS has 42% and 37%. Slight edge to UCA.

However, SHS outshoots opponents in 3s by 38%v 36% while UCA is 39% v 39%. Slight edge to Sam.

Sam has clear edge in rebounds with 13+ margin while UCA at only 4+. One key to game would seem to be for SBs to work hard on the boards as Sam avg 41 and SBs only 34. Need double figure reb night from both Duever and Herbert.

UCA has s light edge in assists and in TO margin (+1 vs -4 for Sam). Hard to win on road with lots of TOs so SBs need to win this phase.

#1 SLC scorer is Herbert at 24 (55% FG s)and #4 is Sam's Britni Martin at 19 (95% FTs and 46% 3s) . Duever is #6 at 15 (67% FGs) and Sequeena Thomas is #8 at 14. Duever at 81% FTs but Herbert is way below her norm at only 67%....this would be a good time to get back to 90%.

Thomas leads in rebs at 13 with Herbert at #2 with 10 and Duever #5. SBs clearly have to work on keeping Thomas blocked out.

This has the looks of a tough road game. Road teams usually only win these with good defense and few TOs.

Look for Herbert and Duever to rebound strong and hit FTs. Someone has to slow down Martin's scoring.

I'll always go with the SBs but this will not be easy.

FINAL

UCA 23-25=48 (11-5/4-1)
SHS 35-2=64 (8-9/4-1)

Get another chance on 2/16 at FC........

http://www.ucasports.com/news/2013/1/17/WBB_0117130509.aspx

Box at:

http://www.ucasports.com/boxscore.aspx?path=wbball&id=1097

Kats won on 1 more 3 made, 2 more 2s made and 9 more FTs made...

The bad....SBs took 15 more shots than did Sam and still made 3 fewer...Sam made 13 Fts and we only shot 8.....Herbert was 0 for 0...that just looks odd to me....got outrebounded by 44-3...ugh.....

The good... Herbert was 14/14 DD and Duever was 14/5 (all offensive...great job) ..both solid nights.....Rogers was 8/6.... only had 12 TOs (much better) vs 16 for Kats....

This wass a woulda, shoulda , coulda game....

Got to get over it and get a win Sat at TAMCC.....
