Week of 2/3/14

Rundown of results for this week's road opponents...9 to go with 5 at home...

UCA is 7-2 in SLC (13-7 overall) and in 1st place by 1/2 half game over Lamar (7-3) and one game over Nicholls and SFA each at 6-3....still lots of ball to be played and lots of teams in the hunt....need to stay focused and get two home wins this week......next week on road gets much tougher at TAMCC and HBU

2/6/14, 5:30pm

SELA (5-3/6-14)

2-10 on road but a two game win streak....this is something of an almost must win for SBs....we need to win home games and put SELA another game back so it is just that much harder for them to sneak up later...

OOC wins......only opener over Mobile by 78-68 at home

OOC losses.....Southern by 7, ULM by 10 (UCA won by 7), Tulane by 28, Ole Miss by 27 (UCA won by 3) , Middle Tenn by 17, NC State by 28, Grand Canyon by 5, SMU by 43, UTEP by 22, Miss State by 52 and UL-Lafayette by 13

However, SLC play has been better...they could easily be 6-3 and 2nd place....

W at McNeese by 17...UCA wins by 15 on road
L at Nicholls by 29....UCA loss by 9 on road
W over UIW by 12 at home...UCA wins by 20 on road
L by 1 to SHS at home
W over Lamar by 5 at home....excellent win for Lady Lions
L to TAMCC by 29 on road....UCA wins by 4 at home
W by 1 over Houston Baptist on road...UCA wins by 13 at home
W over New Orleans by 29 at home

2/8/14,2pm

New Orleans (0-9, 0-20)..first time at FC

The season has not been kind to UNO as they have had lots of 20+ losses (actually18) and few competitive games. UNO lost by 40 to Utah Valley as an example of the season. However, they have had a couple competitve games:

L to Jacksonville State by 3 at home
L to HBU by 12 on road

SBs need to put this away early and play strong defense.....no time to let someone have a big upset.....

2/6/14 FINAL

SELA 31-39=70 (5-4/6/15)
UCA 32-48=80 (8-2/14-7)

Wow..glad to get this put away....Lions made it a game at the end....SBs turned it up in H2 ..

In a nutshell, SBs hit four more 3s and won the game......won rebs by 38-30 with a +9 O-rebs....both teams had good FG% (45-50%) and solid FTs (67%)...UCA forced 3 more TOs....mots stats close...great rebounding and had 15 more FG attemtptsthat Lions but did not get as much out of that as they could have.....but enough to win....

Duever another DD at 20/12 and was only 11/6 midway thru H2...way to finish strong...Sadler had a fine ngth with 17/6 and only one TO.....Mullins added 12 (2/2 3s) and Profitt another 11 (60% 3s)....Rice with 8 and Agee 7..good balance....

UCA led 23-13 after Q1.....then only 32-31 (9-18) at H1...very close thru Q3 at 52-51 (20-20)...then a strong ending with SBs winning Q4 by 28-19

Good win to defend home court....

2/8/14 FINAL

UNO 16-14=30 (0-11/-22)
UCA 46-16=62 (9-2/15-7)

A win is a win...looks likes an ugly 2nd half.....SBs had only 20 shots in H2....and then only shot 30%...burned it up in H1 with 61% FGs...41-25 reb advantage....UNO had only 7 FTs the entire agme.....

Proffitt led with 23 points, Agee had a nice 9/10 and Duever added 13/8 in only 20 minutes....

The SLC leaders added abit of sepration this week as UCA leads at 9-2, Lamar close behind at 8-3 and SFA/Nicholls at 7-4.....then SELA is two games back....

Went to the game. At one point they were up 30 points and mass subs happened. Profitt is the real deal. Freshmen got some good experience too. This game was NEVER close.

Season stat leaders: As of Feb. 11, 2014
( Looks like a TEAM effort instead of a star effort )

Scoring offense & offense rebounding: UCA #8

SCORING DEFENSE
1. Central Arkansas 22 1251 56.9

SCORING MARGIN
1. Central Arkansas 22 65.3 56.9 +8.5

FIELD GOAL PERCENTAGES
1. Houston Baptist 23 610 1368 .446
2. Central Arkansas 22 516 1187 .435

FIELD GOAL PCT DEFENSE
1. Stephen F. Austin 23 516 1345 .384
2. Central Arkansas 22 466 1171 .398

3 point %- 3rd.
Rebounding defense- #1 31 per game
Rebounding margin- #2
Assists, steals, Turnover margin about #7 in league
75% of the time UCA gets those defensive rebounds but only 26% of the time do they get the offensive rebound..which is dead last in the league. Maybe because our Centers are shooting leaving no one to rebound it.

We are second to last in attendance at 727... IW has 490.

2/13/14 FINAL

UCA 15-27=42 (9-3/15-8)
TAMCC 19-26=45 (6-7/13-11)

SBs shot a whopping 29% for 2-pt FGs annd 32% overall while Islanders hit a weak 28% overall but wne 12/15 for FTs and snuck off with the win. TAMCC also won rebs by 41-36 otherwise stats almost dead even.

Duever led with 13/10 and Mullins had 10/4 with Rice adding 9/5.

If anyone was able to watch or listen, what was the story? Hard loss when you have a one game SLC lead.

I wasn't able to listen to anything but SteveO's wrap up while I was driving home. But that's not a "good" loss for sure.

2/15/14 FINAL

UCA 23-34=57 (10-3/16-/8)
HBU 32-23=55 (7-7/11-14)

http://www.ucasports.com/news/2014/2/15/WBB_0215141817.aspx

Duever does it again with 16/9 (in only 25 minutes) and the winning FG with 3 seconds....Proffitt had 12 and gee added 10....Mullins tossed in 8....shot 43% FGs and 50% 3s and 70% FTs.. only got to the line 10 times...HBU made 21/24 FTs for a +14 advantage.....SBs led by 5 in the last 8 minnutes but let it melt away as HBU went ona 8-0 run to take the lead 51-48......Duever scored 4 down the stretch to match HBU and Proffitt hit a big 3 in last minute to give UCA the lead before CD put it away..

Any conference road win is big..especially when #2 Lamar (9-4) lost to Northwestern State (7-5)....

Week of 2/17/14

To win the SLC regular season, SugarBears (10-3/16-8) have some big games to go....

2/22: ORU (6-7/7-16)
2/27: SHS (6-7/11-13)
3/1: Lamar (9-4/14-10)
3/6: at Northwestern State (7-6/14-11)
3/8: at SFA (8-5/14-11)

Lamar is at SHS this week then at ORU and UCA next week and close out at home vs UNO and SELA......Cardinals look to have a slight schedule advantage vs SBs...UCA gets ORU and SHS at home while LU gets those two on the road...edge to UCA....UCA has home court vs LU...but then LU at home for what should be two easy wins and UCA on road for what will be two tough games....

First, SBs have to defend home court this week vs an ORU team that has back to back losses to HBU and TAMCC.....the GEs last 5 games include 4 of Top 5 in SLC so they will be hungry this weekend for a win...they could go 1-4 and end up 7-11 and likely not in tourney.... SBs better have their A game ready from the tip...

Only three more times to see Duever and Rice at home....
