SUGAR BEAR CLASS GROWS TO SIX WITH FOUR LATE-PERIOD SIGNEES

We look to be adding some much needed depth that the team lacked this year (due in part to injury). Hopefully they will make a nice turnaround!

https://ucasports.com/news/2019/4/30/womens-basketball-sugar-bears-sign-high-scoring-juco-guard-as-class-grows-to-seven.aspx

CONWAY — Central Arkansas has added the 7th member of its 2018-19 women's basketball recruiting class, as East Georgia State guard Savanna Walker has signed on to join the Sugar Bears for the next two seasons.

Walker, a 5-foot-8 guard from Savannah, Ga., averaged 19.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game last season for East Georgia, scoring in double figures in all 27 games – including 14 games scoring more than 20, with a high of 29 – and accounting for a third of her team's scoring for the season. She shot 41.9 percent from the field, 35.9 percent from 3-point range and 72.9 percent from the free throw line; also recording 4 double-doubles, with a high of 15 rebounds.

"I'm so happy Savanna has joined the Sugar Bear program," said head coach Sandra Rushing, entering her 8th season at Central Arkansas. "She brings good experience and will provide leadership to our team. One thing I really like about Savanna is that she is willing to be part of something bigger than herself. She's a very skilled player offensively – she can create her own shot and get to the rim. She has good knowledge of the game and that will be a great asset to our program."

Prior to her two years at East Georgia, where she was an All-Region selection, Walker was an All-State selection at Woodville-Tompkins High School. During her senior season, she averaged 16.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 1.9 assists while leading the Wolverines to a 24-6 record and a spot in the Class A state semifinals.

Walker's signing brings the Sugar Bears' class total to seven, adding to the six returning letterwinners from last season's team.

See where we have already offered a 9th grader at Mansfield who is 6'3...have seen a few clips of her play and she has good moves and not just height...of course, we are not the only team who has noticed her....she looks like a player who can make a team....
