WBB really seems to have slipped the last few years. Unfortunately, I don't get to see a lot of the Sugar Bear games -- what does everyone see as issues?

SUGAR BEARS FALL 102-41 TO LADYJACKS

At least Coach Rushing is upset too.

We can make excuses all day long – but you have to show up and at least compete. At least compete. And if you're not going to compete, you're not putting that uniform on. Bottom line. Period. We're going to have open tryouts next week – because we can go out in the student body and get kids who can give up a hundred points and score as many as we did tonight."

She's right. 8)

UCA@SFA

UCA 6-14-10-11=41
SFA 28-24-29-21=102

UCA/SFA

FGs: 34% v 55%
3s: 0% v 44%...Jacks +14 made....
FTs: 64% v 58%..SBs only get to stripe 8x....Jacks +13 made
Rebs: 32 v 42
TOs: 20 v 8......SBs gave up 10 steals

Crawford had a 13/5 game with no TOs in only 23 minutes....Canady scored 11...…..not much else...….

If you are not hitting from perimeter then you have to drive the lane and pick up fouls...….giving up 10 steals is a red flag...…...giving up 14 3s....wow....

We have shown this season we can play much better defense that last night but scoring is a big issue...…..I have not been able to see them play in person and stats never tell the whole story.....there is never a good reason for lack of effort if that was in play at SFA.....

UCA@Nicholls

https://ucasports.com/news/2020/1/18/womens-basketball-strong-4th-quarter-helps-sugar-bears-close-out-colonels.aspx

UCA 14-11-14-14=53 (4-4)
NSU 8-14-16-8=46 (1-7)

UCA/NSU

FGs: 47% v 26%....18 made 2s vs only 13 for NSU
3s: 40% v 10%...SBs 4/10 and +3 for the game
FTs: 83% v 77%...Colonels+12 made...SBs need to get to the line more
Rebs: 41 v 26 ..even so we only had 8 2nd chance points
TOs: 24 v 8......wayyyyy too many TOs....NSU made 26 POTO...over half their points

Langhi and Hudspeth were combined 4/7 from 3.....Langhi was a solid 13/7/3Bs.....Brianna had a big 14....and sister Ayanna was 8/13....

SugarBear basketball in Q4 for the win....

"Nicholls regained the lead early in the fourth, getting a 3-pointer from Tykeria Williams to go ahead 41-39. But from that point, the Sugar Bears would hold the Colonels without a field goal for 9:30 while putting up 14 points to increase their lead to as many as 10 in the final 1:30 to secure the victory. In the quarter, Nicholls would go just 2-for-13 (15.4 percent) from the field."

Not the same caliber team as the most recent drubbing but a good road win...now to carry this onto the court vs ACU next Sat at the FC....Go SBs!!!

ACU@UCA

ACU 15-21=36-12=48-26=74 (7-1)
UCA 13-9=22-15=37-27=64 (4-5)

ACU/UCA
FGs: 43% v 41%
3s: 50% v 20%.....Cats +6 made
FTs: 82% v 63%......Cats +16 made...made more than SBs shot
Rebs: 31 v 33
TOs: 17 v 12

H2: Much better H2.....got close at the end but just not enough....outscore in H2 by 42-38....Q2 was a killer...……..ACU +24 with 3s and +12 FTs but SBs +24 on 2 pt FGs....Taylor Sells exceptional with 22 on 10/14 shooting....Brianna Twigg added 15....Hannah Langhi solid at 10/5/2A/2S/1B....Ayanna Trigg solid at 6/12...hats off to ACU's Breanna Wright tossed in 31 on 53% FGs including 5/8 3s and 8/8 FTs.....Wright was certainly the difference maker....

Next is SLU and Northwestern State on the road.....play like the H2 today and get a couple wins....Go SugarBears!!

H1: ACU leads based on +3 3s made and +7 FTs made....SBs are 0-6 from 3s......for a team that works inside a lot we do not seem to collect many trips to the stripe....

UCA@SLU

UCA 15-12=27-9=36-6=42 (4-6)
SLU 15-12=27-16=43-20=63 (5-5)

Lack of offense in Q3/4......Lions were +12 FGs made and SBs had +9 TOs.....really no highlights....Canady was 10/4

H1: SBs hanging in with 3/10 3s.....7 SBs have scored....

Now off to Northwestern on Sat...…

9 & 6 points in the second half. #-o

Seriously.....

You can throw the ball at the rim from random spots below half court and get lucky enough to hit that many points. Worse case scenario is drive the darn ball and draw a foul. Free throws are uncontested.

Amen...drive the paint, get the other teams in foul trouble and shoot FTs.....start that from first possession.....Coach sounded very upset with the effort last night....shortest post-game radio interview I can recall.....had they played as hard as they did the prior game, they had a very good shot at a road win....

UCA@Northwestern State

UCA 14-13=27-11=38-13=51 (5-6)
NWS 9-15=24-10=34-10=44 (2-9)

https://ucasports.com/news/2020/2/1/womens-basketball-sugar-bears-hold-off-lady-demons-for-51-44-win.aspx

UCA/NWS

FGs: 39% v 33%...each team made 18
3s: 25% v 18%...each team only made 2....
FTs: 54% v 55%...SBs +7 made....difference in game
Rebs: 39 v 32
TOs: 19 v 19....way too many.....

SBs led throughout H1 but never comfortably and finally mid Q3 Demons took a brief lead before SBs edged back out front and build a small lead to the finish. Although SBs only shot 13/24 FTs they hit 7/9 down the stretch when really needed. Canady led with a solid 15/8.....likewise did Langhi with 9/7....Ayanna Trigg grabbed 8 rebs.............

Now back home for games vs Lamar and McNeese...........Go SugarBears!!
