The Bears fall to a red shot shooting Abilene Christian team 93-58.

In the second half, Abilene hit on 61.3 percent of its shots while connecting on 9/12 from the three.

Khaleen Bennett was the only Bear in double figures with 11 points.

The Bears are back on the road Wednesday at SELA

Sad to see that this program has not improved over the last 10 years plus.
Still getting beat by 30 and 40 a game with the same old excuses being
spilled out by the coaching staff. I don't expect to beat the power 5 schools,
but is it too much to ask to be competitive in your own conference.

The program is destined to win 4 or 5 games hopefully and it obviously
doesn't create much concern...sad, sad, sad :(

Hey Foot....I feel your pain. Not making excuses for them, but they do not have a point guard right now and that REALLY hurts them. Not sure it would have helped against Abilene.

You know as well as I do that it starts with the athletic administration and they don't give two hoots for mens basketball. I have been preaching this for months....they are just using mens basketball to fund the other minor sports.

I just hate it, but no one will try to do anything about it.

Surely they have more than one point guard on the roster...even if it's a
freshman, might as well throw them to the wolves or you will be in the same
situation next year...

I was told right after Jones went down that their two backups were also injured. If it wasn't for bad luck, they would have no luck at all.

Kind of reminds me of the time when the Sugarbears were without a point guard and they were forced to play their post player, Megan Herbert at point guard, which turned out to be disasterious.

If you can't score, at least plays some good defense and slow the game down. Also, your telling me at a D1 school in Central Arkansas we can't find a guy who played the point decently in high school?

I don't claim to know everything that is happening in that area, but one of my biggest beefs is that we are doing a HORRIBLE job of recruiting the state....PERIOD.

In fact, I see no evidence of UCA recruiting mens basketball players in the state.

UCA@ACU

UCA 25-33=58 (2-4)
ACU 39-54=93 (4-1)

Able to listen to about 20 minutes of first half while driving....hung in for first 10 minutes of the game but Bergerson got two fouls in first 2+ minutes and never able to get into a groove...ACU steadily increased lead throughout half.....25 UCA TOs pretty much doomed the Bears against a very good defensive team playing at home....highlights were Collin Cooper's 12 points and Khaleem Bennett's 11....

Lions at Hammond on Wed....Go Bears!!

UCA@SLU

UCA 30-27=57
SLU 37-32=69

UCA/SLU
FGs: 43% v 39%....Bears +2 made 2s
3s: 26% v 30%....Lions +2 3s made
FTs: 57% v 72% .... Lions +10 made FTs...SLU made more than Bears shot
Rebs: 6/26/32 v 13/26/39....got whipped on boards in H1
TOs: 19 v 13...too high

Hard to win on road vs anyone when you have much higher TOs and much lower FTs made....Bergerson led with 13/5/6As...Cooper solid at 10 points but fouled out in 27 minutes....Shittu grabbed 10 rebs........Chatham took another 7....Baker 8/3/4As.....Lions had four in double figures....

Bears never led but tied several times including late at 57....then Lions finished on 12-0 run.....Bears 0/5 in that stretch....Lions 6/6 on FTs....

Try again Sat vs Northwestern State at FC...Go Bears!!

PS...ACU pounded SFA by 20 tonight at home...

NWS@UCA

NWS 40-41=81
UCA 42-35=77 (2-6)

NWS/UCA
FGs: 45% v 49%...Bears +3 made 2s....61% 2pt FG%
3s: 36% v 27%...Demons +2 made
FTs: 81% v 90%...Demons +4 made....Bears 9/10
Rebs: 15/23/38 v 10/23/33
TOs: 13 v 15

Tough loss at home........Demons had a 19-9 late run to take a lead and Bears then having to fight back....got to 78-77 after trailing 67-77 but fell short.......held Demons for over four minutes without a FG late in game...NWS had 5 in double figures...Bergeson another good game at 16/2/9A...career high assists....Cooper led with 17/2.....Shittu solid at 8/11...career high rebs......Kayouloud added 12/5 and Baker had 10....Bears playing short handed with Khaleem Bennett and Samson George not available who are expected back next week...

Bears get Wed off and then get McNeese next Sat at FC......Bears the game at LC earlier but got to find a way to protect home court ........Go Bears!!

Yet, another one slips away.....
UCA loses to McNeese State at the Farris Center 80-70.
The Bears will be off until next Saturday when they travel to Sam Houston State.

McNeese@UCA

MSU 36-44=80
UCA 33-37=70 (2-7)

MSU/UCA

FGs: 48% v 50%....MSU +1 made 2s
3s: 56% v 52%...MSU +3 made...still Bears made 11
FTs: 73% v 47%....UCA +1 made but missed 10
Rebs: 9/26/35 v 6/25/31...MSU +10 PIP....
TOs: 12 v 16...MSU had 9 steals.....

Kayouloud led with nice 20/5/4A....57% FG% including 2/3 3s and 2/2 FTs and zero TOs...Bergerson a steady 19/4/4A/1B/1S but 4 TOs....55% FGs....Shittu a solid 12/5/2B....Cooper added 9.....bench went to MSU by 36-5.....ugh...

Lots of little things lead to losses........TOs, out rebounded, missed 10 FTs, almost no bench scoring, MSU dropping 14 3s....

Does not get easier with Sam next Sat on the road then SFA on the next Wed at FC....Go Bears!!

UCA@SHS

UCA 34-23=57
SHS 36-61=97

Bears played very well in H1 until last minute or so....Bearkats got back in the lead just before half........then they turned up the defensive pressure immediately leading to UCA TOs and poor shooting.....then SHS lit it up with 3s....they shot 67% FGs in H2 of which 9 of 14 were from 3........hit all 10 FTs....meanwhile Bears only had 21 shots in H2 and only 2 3s and shot only 46% FTs....Coach said after that Bears got away from working inside which was working in H1 and allowed SHS to play fast.....other stats really do not matter in a 61-23 half........

Bergerson led with 13/2/3 game on only 33% FGs.....Kayouloud got props from Coach for his 11/5/3 game, 50% FGs and hustle play....Bennett back and scored 8 in 17 minutes but time limited to state of his conditioning coming off the concussion recovery having not been able to run much...

Gets no easier vs SFA Wed at FC....assuming weather permits.......Go Bears!!

Wow

Watched the SHS and UCA game yesterday ESPN+. How do you compete for 20 minutes and the next 20 minutes get out scored by 38 points?

Answer: Coaching and talent off the bench.

Very easy new head coach, who has been there for what six (6) years and his so called head assistant who brought in the majority of the talent (exception the Bergerson and Jones kid who were brought in with Koval by Pennell.

The talent here is a dumpster fire __ Coach Boone needs talented assistants who know and can develop talent. The lead recruiter + Boone are recruiting and performing at under 30% wins and loses over six+ years.

Picked 7th 20-21 and they will lose ALL but maybe win at home vs. USEL and finish 4-20. Please and this talent will be back because NO one if entering the portal would take them.

Bergersen only stat filler and like yesterday cannot handle the ball and should be wing. In addition, look at Koval UNCG on the bench averaging six points a game and minutes getting less and less. Koval and like UCA program horrible defensively and when pushed like yesterday ___ flatout quit.

Going to the ASUN it will get tougher and UCA and Kennesaw St will be the dumpster fire programs.... UCA administration needs support Coach Boone, get him reasonable budget and hire real assistants with connections geographically.

Hate to be harsh but does AD care (or) does AD & President like the loser checks more? Plus, who cares when 50 people go to the games.
