TOs: 18 v 10...EKU +8 steals.....still too many TOs for Bears

Much needed win and the first ASUN win and on the road to boot!!

Glad to see we came back from 7 down in H2 for the win but not good we were down 7 in H2 after leading by 8 at half....looks like one of the best efforts and games of the season... Hall led with a big 21/16 DD...wow....good to see Chatham playing 28 minutes and getting a solid 16/7 game with zero TOs....Cooper added 18 and Hunter 16 (but had 6 TOs)....excellent getting to the line and then making the shots.....basically won the game .....

Now back to FC to host first ASUN game vs Lipscomb Bisons....1-0 in ASUN with 84-77 win over North Alabama tonight.....8-8 overall.....best wins over South Carolina State, Dayton and Alabama A&M.....close losses to Tennessee State and College of Charleston....notable losses to Miami, Florida State, LSU....11 point road loss at Tennessee Tech.....29 pt road loss at Belmont and 21 pt home loss to Chattanooga....

Glad to see the Bears get a nice win after their OOC schedule....now to carryon....Go Bears!!

UCA 46-47=93 (2-0/5-10)

UCAvLU:

FG%: 55% v 54% ....LU +5 made 2s..their big center 15-20 FGs on his way to 32 pts

Happy Birthday to Bruce and Sugar with another Bears win!!

Best thing from this game besides a ASUN win is only 5 TOs and 45% on 3s.....6 Beras in doube efigures also terrific....Kayouloud shots lights out with 1-11 FGs and 3-3 FTs for 18 pts....glad to see him have a very solid game...Hunter had another good game by adding 18...Hall keeps it going with a 16/11 DD..+24 for bench points impressive....

Now to keep the win streak alive next Tuesday in historic Freedom Hall in Louisville vs Bellarmine at 6pm...Go Bears!!

https://ucasports.com/news/2022/1/9/mens-basketball-bears-rally-for-93-88-win-over-bisons.aspx

CONWAY, Ark._ The University of Central Arkansas Bears overcame a double-digit, second-half deficit on Sunday afternoon and remained perfect on Scottie Pippen Court and in the ASUN Conference with a rousing 93-88 victory over the Lipscomb Bisons.

UCA (5-10, 2-0) placed six players in double figures and finished off the the win with an emphatic alley-oop dunk by Jared Chatham, courtesy of a nifty pass from Darious Hall, who had his fifth double-double of the year with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and added a career-high 7 assists.

The Bears did it with a balanced and efficient offense. UCA had a season-low five turnovers and recorded 20 assists and had six in double figures for the first time this season against a Division I opponent. UCA also got 35 points from its bench and made 11 three-pointers, the second-best outing this season.

UCA is now 2-0 in its initial season in the ASUN after being picked 11th and 12th in the preseason polls. The Bears earned a solid 79-72 road win at Eastern Kentucky last Tuesday in the conference opener. The Bears also improved to 4-0 on its new home court.

"I told the guys, I really think LIpscomb is a more experienced, more seasoned team than us,' said UCA head coach Anthony Boone said of the Bisons, who were picked fifth in the ASUN preseason poll. "We told them it was going to take a lot of toughness and effort in order to have a chance to win this game.

"And the guys showed that. Eddy (Kayouloud) had a huge first half and helped us get back in the game and get the lead. Then in the second half we spotted them awhile and then at the under-12 minute) media (time out) the guys just really turned it on. We had guys pick up the slack with Collin (Cooper) getting in foul trouble and eventually fouling out. It was just a great team effort.'

Kayouloud, a junior forward, came off the bench and carried the Bears in the first half, scoring all 18 of his points in just 10 minutes of action. UCA trailed by nine just seven minutes into the game before Kayouloud took over with a 14-point scoring spurt of his own. A layup by freshman Camren Hunter gave the Bears a 29-28 lead with 6:25 left in the half, and a three-pointer from Jaxson Baker gave them a 32-25 lead.

The Bears shot 55.9 percent from the field and made 4 of 11 (36.4 percent) from three-point range in the opening half and led 46-45 at the break.

In the second half, Lipscomb continually fed its 6-foot-9, 275-pound center Ahsan Adadullah and he responded with 32 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 15 of 20 from the field. His inside presence allowed the Bisons to run out to a 11-point lead with 12:14 to play before the Bears rallied. UCA got three-pointers from Collin Cooper, Hunter and Baker and finally drew even on Hall's three-pointer with 2:10 remaining.

After Lipscomb's Parker Hazen missed twice at the free-throw line, UCA freshman Ibbe Klintman nailed UCA's 10th three-pointer with :41 left, good for a 91-88 lead. Hall then found Chatham behind the defense for the alley-oop dunk that sealed it.

"I feel very fortunate to be the coach of this bunch of guys,' said Boone. "They are incredible. We played some good basketball for stretches during the non-conference season, but at certain times we just got overwhelmed. But they have always come back and taken whatever I've thrown at them, and that just speaks to their character.

"And because of that,we're able to come out and play with some confidence going into conference play, still believing that we can win some games. So we're going to ride it as long as we can. And if we do get knocked off, we'll say 'hey, we've been here before, let's pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and just keep going.'

Kayouloud was 7 of 11 en route to his 18 points, while Hunter went 8 of 13, including 2 of 4 from three-point range, for his 18 points. Hall followed with 16, Chatham with 11 and Klintman and Baker with 10 apiece. UCA went 7 of 13 from beyond the arc in the second half and finished with at least one three-pointer from all eight players who saw action.

1/12/22 @ Bellarmine (Freedom Hall in Louisville)

https://ucasports.com/news/2022/1/11/mens-basketball-red-hot-knights-knock-off-bears.aspx

UCA 24-39=63 (2-1/5-11)
BU 34-51=85 (2-0/8-8)

UCA/BU:

FG%: 47% v 63% ...BU +12 made 2s
3s% 33% v 42% ...each had 8
FT%: 54% v 83% ... UCA 7-13 and BU 5-6
Rebs: 6-19/25 v 2-22/24...cannot remember seeing a winning team with only 2 O-rebs
TOs: 16 v 10....BU +7 POTO

Apparently BU guard Dylan Penn not well guarded....17 2s, one 3 and 1-2 FTs....BU held Darious Hall to only 6 points and we could not stop Penn....short turn around with long bus trip did not help ......Coach hit it right that no matter being tired you have to learn to cope....

Next up is North Alabama at FC tip 3pm......Lions are 2-1/8-8....best wins over EKU by 1, Alabama State by 12 and by 11, and Mississippi Valley by 14.... losses include Mississippi State by 26, Iona by 16, Auburn by 26, UCF by 11, Gonzaga by 30..also lost to both Lipscomb and Jacksonville State by about 10.... Go Bears!!

1/15/22 vs North Alabama

https://ucasports.com/news/2022/1/15/mens-basketball-gritty-bears-take-down-lions-in-overtime.aspx

UNA 39-37-12=88 (1-3/8-9)
UCA 29-47-13=89 (3-1/6-11)

UNA/UCA:

FG%: 38% v 42%....Lions +3 made 2s
3s%: 26% v 19%...Bears +2 made 3s
FT%: 76% v 82% ...+1 made FTs....29 v 28!!
Rebs: 13-32/45 v 9-33/42...UNA +3 2nd chance pts
TOs: 13 v 15...Bears +5 POTO

Two DDs....Hall a 25/13 and Chatham 13/10 (9-10 FTs!!),,,Hunter added 21 on 7-15 FGs and 7-9 FTs....Cooper added 14 and Olowokere another 11....looks like the officials had a happy whistle with 72 FTs combined....wow.....Coop had 5 FTs in OT, the final two for the win, plus a 3....Olo had another 3....

Guess this is what we should expect with UNA given the many hard-fought games in the past....nice to see the team fight back and not give up....winning teams have to learn to do this routinely....

Nice to see the Bears in the fight at this point in the season albeit the 3 wins have come again teams slower in the standings....it gets tougher quick vs JSU Tuesday at the FC tip at 7pm.

JSU is 3-0/10-6 with best wins over Drexel by 8, Elon by 12, FIU by 7, UALR by 20 and wins over the same ASUN teams Bears have beaten....losses include Wichita State by 3, Troy by 4, Valpo by 8, South Alabama by 8, VCU by 14, Bama by 6....some pretty good basketball names in that list with close games....

...Go Bears!!

1/18/22 vs Jacksonville State

JSU 39-47=86 (4-0/11-6)
UCA 41-40=81 (3-2/6-12)

UCA/JSU:

FG%: 47% v 53% ... Bears +8 made 2s
3s%: 35% v 48% ... JSU +4 made ....12 of 25
FT%: 100% v 86% ... JSU +9 made....Bears only shot 3x
Rebs: 12-17/29 v 12-27/39 ... still UCA +4 2nd chance points
TOs: 9 v 20 ... Beras +17 POTO...great job here!!

This is one that got away against the division leader....needed to get to line more and defend 3s a little better...JSU had 6 in double figures with player off bench scoring 20.....Bears had 5 in doubles....Hall pitched in 20 to lead the way and Hunter added 14....a loss but another solid game overall....

Homestand ends Sat at 3:15pm vs Liberty.....LU comes in 4-0/13-6 and East lead....best wins include Mizzou by 19, East Carolina by 10 and Northern Iowa by 2...losses include LSU by 16, Iona by 4, SFA by 12, Stanford by 3 and BYU by 5.....looks like a tall order for Bears but a big chance to move up the ranks...Go Bears!!

This was from the UNA game!

There were 1000 more people at the JSU game, but I haven't seen any videos of it yet.
This is an amazing atmosphere from what it has been in recent memory!

watched the end of the game tonight vs fgcu. uca had the lead by 4 under a minute and by 2 with less than 30 seconds and immediately went down and shot the ball with a full shot clock. it’s almost like we try to lose. it’s embarrassing. kill the program, nobody cares

Keep teaching and coaching....you have to learn how to win....obviously playing for a foul or a high % shot after running clock is a better play than taking a quick shot....probably a winnable road game but FGCU was something like 14-9 with a win over a MAC team and over our old friends, the SLU Lions....got to go get after Kennesaw tomorrow night...Go Bears!!

FGCU 44-43-8=95
UCA 42-45-6=93

Stetson 31-44=75
UCA 33-46=79

UCA 41-31=72
KSU 51-32=83

Got get ready for the return game with JSU on the road Sat at 4pm....Go Bears!!

UCA@JSU, 2/12/22
https://ucasports.com/news/2022/2/12/mens-basketball-bears-take-down-no-1-gamecocks.aspx

UCA 32-40=72 (5-6/8-16)
JSU 23-39=62 (9-3/16-9)

UCA/JSU:

FG%: 45% v 41% ... Bears +6 made 2s
3s%: 23% v 30% ... JSU +2 made
FT%: 90% v 46% ... Bears +4 made
Rebs: 6-29/35 v 10-29/39
TOs: 12 v 18 ... nice to see Bers had advantage...+6 POTO

Solid road win over West leader...won both halfs...moderate TOs....excellent FT shooting...trailing in rebs did not hurt much...Hunter led with a strong 21/8/7A/5S...Kayouloud nice 11/6...Chatham added 16...Hall a solid 13/3...Cooper and Klintman each grabbed 5 rebs....

Bears finish with three home games...Bellarmine (9-3, next Wed at 7pm), then EKU (3-9) and Liberty (9-2) and hit the road for UNA (2-10) across the river from Muscle Shoals and then Lipscomb (4-8) at Music City....play well and come out of that 4-1 and end conference play at 9-7 which might get Bears in about 5th-8th seed for tourney....

ASUN tourney, as I read it, includes all 12 teams and games played at highest seed's home court...could not find for sure but that sounds like 1-4 gets round one byes.....that would mean 5-8 gets round one home game....if we can get a home game I will do my best to be there....Go Bears!!

Bellarmine@UCA, 2/16/22

Bell 30-49=79 (10-3/16-11)
UCA 25-44=69 (4-6/8-17)

UCA/Bell

FG%: 48% v 46% ... UCA +3 made 2s
3s% 24% v 40% ... Bellarmine +3 made
FT%: 89% v 88% ... Bellarmine +8 shot and +7 made
Rebs: 6-25/31 v 8-25/33 ... Bellarmine + 2nd chance
TOs: 11 v 8 ... Bellarmine +5 POTO

Pretty even stats...looks like both played solid game...difference of 10 was a combination of POTO, 2nd chance and more FTs ... Hunter led Beras with another terrific game at 25/4/4A....Chatham continued playing well with a 16/13 double double...Klintman added 10 and Baker 9....

Much better game than the 22-point drubbing we got on the road...maybe we get another chance in the tourney and figure them out...Next up is EKU at FC on Sat at 6:15pm for Senior Day...really need to win this one....Go Bears!!

UCA is 8-17 so far on the season:

Games left:

EKU- We beat them last time at their place.
Liberty- They are 18-9 and we haven't played them yet. Yikes.
North Alabama- Beat them in overtime by 1 point at our place. Off to theirs now.
Lipscomb- Beat them by 5 at home. Off to their place.

Let's see if we can get wins at EKU, North Alabama, and Lipscomb to give us an 11-18 record to enter the tourney.

ASUN tournament- Everyone goes.

Go BEARS!
