Nevels second team? huh? I know he was good for a little more than blocked shots.

Nevels on the second team was automatic. The preseason teams are made up based on the votes from last year's All-SLC teams. The top 5 returnees make up the first team. Since Durrell was on the third team he gets bumped up to the second team. The final couple of spots are voted on by coaches and sports information folk.

This process is done in all sports. That's why Nathan Brown didn't even have a shot at preseason football team.

In the SLC maybe. I didn't have such luck when I did my preseason ballot for another league...wasn't the SLC so I did not have the ability to talk to BF101 for advice!

BEARS PICKED 5TH, NEVELS HONORED BY SLC
MEN'S BASKETBALL • Oct 22, 2007

CONWAY, Ark _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears were picked fifth in one Southland Conference poll and sixth in another released at Monday's SLC Basketball Media Day in Katy, Texas.

UCA senior forward Durrell Nevels of Hot Springs was named to the All-SLC second team.

The Bears, in their second year in the conference, were chosen fifth in the East Division by the league's coaches and sixth by the league sports information directors...

I do not wish to go too far out on a limb here, but just as I predicted with football, our men will finish .500 or better in conference games and will be in the top half of our division.

You heard it here sports fans.

I don't think we will shock and awe like our football team but I think both our teams have grown and have the ability to finish 3rd or 4th overall.

Bears were coming on well at end of last season...sort like they were getting the feel of the SLC competition.....I would not be the least bit surprised to see a top half finish in 2007-2008....
