COLD SHOOTING DOOMS BEARS
MEN'S BASKETBALL • Nov 6, 2007

LEXINGTON, Ky _ University of Central Arkansas head coach Rand Chappell was happy with the effort, the defense and the desire of his Bears on Tuesday night in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic.

The one thing he feared going into the game with No. 20 Kentucky turned out to be the Bears' downfall in a hard-fought 67-40 loss before a crowd of 20,335 at storied Rupp Arena...

UCA has rough go at Rupp
BY NICK WALKER

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Central Arkansas Bears won the opening tip but just about nothing else against the 20 thranked Kentucky Wildcats on Tuesday night in front of 20, 335 at Rupp Arena.

Central Arkansas hung on early, but a talented Kentucky team with a first-year coach proved to be too much as the Bears lost 67-40 in the opening round of the 2 K Sports College Hoops Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.

The Bears were consistent shooting the ball against Kentucky, but the shooting was consistently bad. Central Arkansas shot 20 percent from the floor, hitting just 5 of 25 shots in each half...

First 'W' for Billy G.
Gillispie repeats call for smarter play, hustle
By Jerry Tipton
JTIPTON@HERALD-LEADER.COM

Kentucky beat Central Arkansas 67-40 last night in Billy Gillispie's debut as head coach. But he did not celebrate. Instead, he all but apologized.

"It would mean more to me to honor this state, this university and this basketball tradition with unbelievable play," he said. "I'm a basketball junkie. I like to see great teamwork, great hustle, great execution -- smart, hard, together...

Everyone should check out those photos. Those are the best ones you'll see all year.

Apparently we have the same shoes as UK, just purple and not blue.

Tough trip to Lexington
Bears fire blanks against gunslinger Kentucky
By DAVID MCCOLLUM

LEXINGTON, Ky. The University of Central Arkansas Bears tried to dig into one of the deepest and richest wells of college basketball tradition Tuesday night and discovered a dry hole offensively.

Classic venue. Storied opponent. Pyro at the start. Highly publicized coaching debut. Really ugly game, typical of a season opener...

After sudden discovery, Mallett gets a bargain

By DAVID MCCOLLUM
LOG CABIN STAFF WRITER

LEXINGTON, Ky. The best deal of the night during the first round of the 2K Sports Coaches vs. Cancer Classic probably was secured by Ronnie Mallett, the former star receiver for the University of Central Arkansas and a college football Hall of Famer.

Mallett was in Charleston, W.Va., Tuesday when he happened to hear a radio report that the University of Kentucky was opening its basketball season against his alma mater.

"Cats vs. Bears, Naw!" Mallett said he thought to himself. When he found out it was true, he drove three hours from Charleston the Lexington and hoped he could find a ticket...

a LOT more UCA-UK photos, if the admins or Trey can figure out something better to do with all of these, then feel free to do so by all means! Most of these are either AP or Getty shots, for propper credit obviously.
