Received word this morning that Tommy Taylor, who was in the first class of the UCA Sports Hall of Fame, died Tuesday morning at his home.

Tommy played basketball for the Bears in the late 1940's and early 1950's and was also an All Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference performer.

I had the pleasure of sitting with Tommy and his family on the day he was inducted. He told me he had not been back to the campus in years and he was VERY humbled to be named to the first class. He was just an outstanding gentleman. Since his induction, he had been back on campus a few times.

My father played with Mr. Taylor in the late 40's, early 50's. He unexpectedly came all the way from TX for my dad's funeral. My father always said he was the best he had ever played against or with. Joe Dillard says the same thing, he must have been really good. The thing I rememer about him the most is that he was always such a gentlemen and never was very impressed with himself, an uncommon trait in many athletes today.
