UCA Fans,

Let us know what your signing day was like. I'm hearing about all the other schools in the SLC, but this is your first real signing class for the move up to Div I basketball and volleyball...

Drop us a post on KatFans. Would love to hear who you guys got coming into the fold for the Bears and Sugar Bears...

Payne Harding, a guard from Pulaski Academy in Little Rock whose brother plays at UALR and Drew Haymaker from Edmund, OK.

Drew played on last year's 6A state championship team and also played on a high level AAU team. He is 6'8", 240 and was pretty highly recruited choosing UCA over some more established and higher profile D-I programs.

Both of them seem to be great kids and good students and should help us build our program even further.

Haymaker got a lot of press when he was younger but kind of fizzled out from what I've read. At the very least, he's a big body and has been a winner. He just didn't turn out to be the stud he was expected to become.

He's 17 or 18, with a big body and used to winning. No telling how good he could become.

WOW. I just did some research on this Haymaker kid.

Quote:
DREW HAYMAKER
6'8", 227 pounds, 15 years old
Santa Fe High School, Edmond, Okla.
BIG DEAL He's been hearing "Baby Shaq" since he was a wee 6'4" fourth-grader. Today the frosh spends his free time scrimmaging against OK State's Frans Steyn, a 7'2", 306-pound Shaq wannabe.
BIG DIFF Haymaker's also working on his outside game. "I want to be someone who can do it all," he says. Besides, when your handle's as solid as "Mountain Drew," who needs another one?

From here.

-----------------

Here's another great article. Sounds like he's definitely the kind of guy we need to make the move.

Quote:
Among those high profile college programs that already have shown interest in Haymaker are North Carolina, Illinois, Kansas, Purdue, the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University.

Valporiso (sp?) for one I believe.

Didn't say national power, but they are established and have been to the big dance.
